Tags pages being ranked

I am finding for a few WP MNS sites, the tag pages are being ranked way higher than the actual post or category pages. Even for tags for Keywords that are not the main KW of the article.

Is this bad? Am I doing something wrong. It's not like I build BLs or promote the tag pages.

And some people say having Tag pages is like having duplicate content, but isn't that the same with category pages, and you can't avoid this anyways, unless you don't use any tags ...

Advice please!

The same thing happens to most of my WP sites before I build a sizable amount of links to the index page. Just keep link building and this will go away.

Google does not use the keywords meta tag in web ranking ...... I do know that the pages being reported by Google Web Crawler.

Around how many tags do you add for each post?
Is there any concrete evidence that having too many tags is bad?

He means "http://wordpress.com/tag/soup/" is ranking higher than the actual post page.

I also have this going on, part of me is well Im getting ranks but seeing that it is a diet site I am a little unsure how the users feel about it, They are hoping to get to a page for information and end up at a list of blog post.
