Trademark warning - took down by Hostgator

So I just got a email from hostgator with claim from a shoe company claiming trademark violation on a site I'm hosting at hostgator but domain registered at GD. It gave me 48 hours to reply, but I didn't see the email until after. And hostgator has now blocked/deleted alll the files.

So interestingly, I guess companies are now going after hosting companies and not domain registrars, and it's pretty easy to take down websites, just 1 email.
The site is one I reg recently after it dropped, and I just had 1 index page up with some old stuff, and it's basically defunct.

I guess I just have to make site that's promoting the products now, and they might be ok with it?

Anyone have experience on what I can do?

Why would hostgator take down a site on just an email? Very unprofessional IMO. They should at least need a court order. If they take down sites on just an email then how would they cope up with fake complaints.

I got one of my sites taken down by hostwinds for pretty much the same reason

He was saying that hostgator emailed him one time. I'm sure the copyright claim was validated somehow.

Bluehost took down all of my sites because a lawyer called and threatened them. Once I removed the bad site they put all my sites back online.

I had that happen recently but I replied to the email from justhost but either way I had to remove my files and couldn't use the domain name with them any longer. So same out come even if you would have replied. Fortunately it was a brand new site with hardly any content on it.

Same here. Justhost shut down all of my sites based on one poorly written letter from an attorney. I removed content from the "offending" site and the rest came back up.
I then sent the team (of barely intelligent IT crowd) at Justhost the actual Trademark the company owned. The Liar/Lawyer had sent a BS letter and they fell for it without even asking if I had IP or trademark for my site. The folks running servers are not always looking out for their customers. Those scared little boys in mommy's basement are only there to Cover their own Arses.... and it's only getting worse.

I had the same problem with Hostgator 2 years ago. They deleted my site, without warning. It took days to fight to get my files back. I hate these corporate brats. This is why I go with the companies who don't advertise (godaddy, hostgator, etc) on TV commercials, Billboards, etc... They are all money hungry, and could careless about losing 1 customer. For every 1 customer they lose, they gain 100 more suckers. I now host with Linode, and couldn't be happier.

Nope, all I ever got was 1 email from hostgator that gave me 48 hours.
Anyways, after you guys took down the violation relates stuff, what do you put back up on your site? Still trademarked stuff?
