How to transfer files for free?

Very noobish question. I have a VPS and I want to transfer large amounts of files and data (10GB+) between the vps and my local machine and visa versa. What free tool / program can I use to accomplish this task? I know I can use dropbox to do < 2GB for free, however I have more than that.

I was thinking about using filezilla but I'm not sure what the settings would be, I normally use filezilla for website stuff.

Hope someone can help me out.

May be you can try to break it into some parts then transfer it per part.

Look for filezilla server. You place this on your VPS if that is the sending machine and use e regular FileZilla to download on your computer. The manuals should help you.

This is easier than using a third party site if you only want to transfer the files once. Because otherwise you have to send data to dropbox and afterwards download it from dropbox. Now you are sending and receiving at the same time.

Not aggree with that... If you setup your own computer to be Web Server, it's will be very easy to upload into your VPS, even the files more than 100GB... Just using a couple of PHP code to do that. In my experience, it's fast than using FTP client...

It doesn't make sense a php script would be faster or am I missing something?

yea filezilla would work (ftp clients).

Another way is to upload to file sharing sites and download them from the other end, although that would take quite some time.

In your remote desktop client settings, here is an option that lets you make a local drive accessible on the remote computer. Enable that option for your c drive. Now when you log into your vps, go to MY COMPUTER and you will see something like "local C", which is your local of c drive mapped to your remote vps. Drag-and-drop transfer.
