My forum is getting spamed. How to stop it?

I have a vbulletin forum if you need help message me I will show you what to do. how to stop all my spam has stopped.

Don't waste your time with banning IPs and stupid junk like that. It won't solve anything. Most of us xrumers users have VPNs, proxies, etc. If you ban our IP, I'll have a new IP again soon. Just make a custom security question about your topic that xrumer cannot answer. If you do dog training, make it a dog question. You can also disable signatures until the users reach 5-10 posts.

Yeah!!! did that now!!

Moderating each new user is an option for a small forum, however I get hundreds of new users each day across all my sites so I had to come up with something more realistic.

Mine is yet to be launched. Hence Now it is not a problem. But I need do this classification as you said.

There is a very good improvement. After implementing a security question, I have not got any fake registrations till now. Hope this will continue!!!!

You can add more tougher security question for preventing your forums from spam posts.

First use akismet and Most of the spam will be trapped for moderation.

Um isn't Akismet for WordPress only? OP's forum is getting spammed.

1. put recaptcha
2. warn spammer user
3. temporary banned spammer user
4. block spammer IP (you should consider this is the last one since many internet operator using 1 ip for several user)

you may check carefully the user registration, ussualy spammer register some user in near time. then using bot to spam.

5. try to report to forums spam block (sorry i forgot the urls, please googling it), this service will temporary block some activity related to their IP.

http://stopforumspam.com helps a lot and there are plenty of mods that VB supplies to combat spam.

There are plugins for vBulletin that can help you with this.

Or, as someone suggested above, create usergroups and allow permissions change after a certain number of posts. You may also add a couple of random questions to the registration box, and disable any type of links (signature or otherwise) for the first 15-20 posts. That should be enough.

Akismet premium Api key is available for vbulletin forums.
