Need help with keyword research!

It has been sometime since i have researched keywords well i have a few questions if anyone can help me out. senukex is telling me these keywords are doable-not so easy market samurai (fairly new to this program) says there around 27'000 seo comp and i believe thats no so bad? But Adwords tells me there all high competition keywords.

keyword1 - 18k/monthly searches
keyword2 - 2.9k/monthly searches
keyword3 - 6.6k/monthly searches


seo plans are somewhat like this but more basic and excluding amr-xrumor

Should i go for them even though adwords says there high comp? If anyone has some suggestions please post or pm me if you can help me out a little more. This isn't for adsense but a website i have been creating.

adword competition is for advertising (higher competition means more cpc for advertisers) not seo competition
don't forget that this is adwords tool, it is created for adwords advertisers not SEOers

I'm a newb too but from what I've gathered, if Google is telling you it's HIGH competition, it's high competition.

Also, why shoot for those keywords when there are other keywords with the same number of exact matches for LOW or MEDIUM competition?

Sounds like you might be married to those keywords and not considering how difficult it would actually be to rank for them.

Make sure you have chosen Exact search, not the broad search. Here is a nice tutorial for keyword research.
