I have installed a vbulletin forum few days back and a lot off spam posts are getting populated in my forum :( I wonder if some on is doing a xrumer or some other tool to blast on my forum. Hence I deleted the forum from my domain and again reinstalled it yesterday thinking this will solve the problem. But this morning I saw again a lot of spam posts are there.
How to stop it? I have enabled all verification available. But nothing seems to work out. Please help me to resolve it.
What should be done?

Just block the IPs the spam is coming from and try not reporting them in forum spam XD

have u tried putting additional security questions or maybe traps like arrange this image in proper format.

I think you're in the wrong forum. These guys are always engineering ways to increase the amount of spam they can generate... ;)

Yes, but I bet that none of these guys want their own forums to be spammed :D

I'm not saying I agree with it at all, personally can't stand internet spam. I think there's a way to fan yourself out and multiply your presence without "raping the internet".

First use akismet and Most of the spam will be trapped for moderation.

In registration don't use just captcha, ask some question, like 14+93= ? or Who's russia's president :D

What I did was, I banned the users and the IP's from winch the posts are made. But now users keep on registering. In no time there are more than 50 registered users. But my forum is yet to get live :(

I suppose you could charge a buck or two for entrance fee and see how that goes over. Not sure how that's done on a forum but I'm hoping to try one day soon.

Buddy, All I did is just Install vB. I am yet to make all the customization and get the forum live. Even before that I get these troubles. And I cant charge for registration . This is free for programmers not spammers :(

Is is spam posts or spam threads?

My forum was getting a couple of pages spam threads a day in one of the sections relating to films.
I couldn't find a good way to stop it which was free and didn't rely on plugin's so I did this;

- Usergroup 'Registered' has ability to create threads removed
- Create new usergroup called 'Verified Members' and replicate the permissions for 'Registered' except you turn on the ability to create threads
- Create an automatic promotion from 'Registered' to 'Verified Member' after 3 posts (or after 3 days, 10 posts, 15 days, whatever - I chose 3 posts)
- Create a bunch of easy topics for people to reply to (essential if the forum is small or new) such as 'New member introduction', 'what was your first pet?', 'How did you hear about us?', 'Word association game' etc
- Make a global annoucement telling new members they need to have 3 posts before they can create threads.

I hope this helps anyone having issues with spam threads.

This sounds great!!! The problem which I am facing is, a thread New is getting created with one post in it. Like this number of threads are getting created. I suppose your method will do good.

What I tough was, I can moderate user registration so that I can identify spam users and stop them in the root. But this will fail when there are some real users coming to my forum and get disappointed on waiting for approval for used to be created. But the above method is good. Let me try it now!!!

Perfect solution if you combine this with the extra security questions on signup. good luck OP.

I am having issues with one of my phpBB forums and I banned the e-mail addresses they were coming from. Not like gmail or yahoo, but some weird ones. Try that.

Moderating each new user is an option for a small forum, however I get hundreds of new users each day across all my sites so I had to come up with something more realistic.

:Dggg
nothing can stop XRumer for long time:)
