ok if the domain registered with godaddy give him your godaddy username/email and he will transfer the domain to your account ,
make the payment when you are sure you will receive the domain .

or use mid man like sedo.com for the safe process

escrow every time , since you won't release the funds until the domain has been transferred it'll be hard to scam you
i did this to buy one of my expensive domains and used it to negotiate a better price as the seller was just as scared of loosing his domain as i was of my hard earned cash, even got them to pay for the escrow .... happy days and good luck with your purchase

I've done this a lot but I don't worry about escrow if it's not a lot of money. I didn't catch a price you're paying for the domain but I don't think you'll get scammed over $17. Even if the guy doesn't transfer it immediately you can do a WhoIs search and hound him otherwise. If you do use an escrow service, search around. Some have stupidly high fees.

Yes, I agree with you but I like to thing ahead and have the information before do something, this is the reason I ask about how things works, If I will not manage to close this one it will help me next time.

So as you said contact the domain holder and make sure it is his domain. he have to had the domain for about at least 3 months to be able to transfer the domain to your domain holder.

Go to https://manage.name.com/expired_dom...&placement=&count=&hours24=on&submit=+Search+

You will find around 1000 Expiring domains. Get a few good domains (by look) and check for Bulk Domain Age + Bulk Page rank check + Alexa Ranking.

A 15-30 mins research will fetch you a good Aged domain with at least Page Rank 1 for just $9.95.
