Google prefers to display listing in the top which are cited by other websites... You may submit your business listing to other website to assure Google that you are not a fake business listing.

It's a bit like link building, in that there are high authority places to get high end citations, and low authority places to get low end citations. At the end of the day its just a case of spreading the word about your business online by getting citations with as consitent NAP (Name, Address, Phone number) as possible.
You want as consistent NAP as possible to minimise issues with the crude Places algo. If your data is really inconsistent you can end up with Google creating duplicate listings which sap some of that citation juice!
Tap up all the big authority citation sites from the lists doing the rounds, then have a look at your competitors to see if there are any other sites you can get them from. After that to really put clear day light between yourselves and others you'll need to get citations from sites that they don't have them on - think outside the box, anywhere where you can put content online can be a citation!

This is one of three critical elements in citations. Do not overlook the value of what slowly said here. You MUST always use exactly the same NAP information on every citation. Make sure that you do not have two businesses using that phone number on the web. If you own a dry cleaning business, do not also advertise that number for your sons lawn mowing service. The NAP must only be in use in one place on line for you to get the full benefit.
Don't try to broaden your customer information by using different verbage (I knew that is not a word, but the word "verbiage" is not what I mean here) in the citations.
Always us the same NAP, and if you describe your business as an auto repair show that specializes in front end alignment, so not say tune ups in an effort to give more information to your customers in other citations. Keep the description general, and use the exact same thing every time.

To make a great citations you need to create a google places listing first, submit your business details, then after that ( after you verify it actually) , google will give you a CID to your map. It contain your Business name, phone and address. Then use that info to build citation. The key is to build your citation exactly as what your google places listing display.
Great game plan. If you haven't already read it, I would suggest doing so.
