Did/Would you left/leave school for IM ?

Hi guys,

I am into IM for some time, I worked as a freelancer, fiverr, and most things for what you can work online, and lot of things that you can work online.

Now it's my first year in college, and I don't know if I can handle both... anyway, I don't wanna leave school, but I was just thinking to make a thread to see how many of you left school for this or would leave school for this OR how many of you are still and school are making a bank?

I'm still in school but studying Computer Science and taking web design classes. Honestly, I really enjoy my classes because it relates to Internet Marketing.

Stay in school and just work at both, but if you get overwhelmed focus on school. Fiverr gig, micro niche sites, and other forms of small time IM are great for short to medium term money, but it's not long lasting.

Unless you have a $5000 consulting business or some other type of online business don't leave school. Bring school to IM

Yep, I know what you mean, I'm at computer science school too, but I make programs and stuff like that (this year), so it's not really that much IM, but I focus on school too because computer science and actually IM is what I live for, the thing that I can do the best.

I left school to go into business for myself, not IM. IM may be your path to wealth, but the world changes so quickly now. I cant speak for leaving school for IM, but leaving school to be an entrepreneur was one of the best decisions I made. It really opened up my mind as an opportunist.

I left college for IM about 8 years ago (2004) and for me personally it was the best decision I have ever made.

Personally I hated every minute of school as far as it related to class. The social experience of college was awesome but since I had friends of the same age in school I still got to participate in the social side but without the school.

Keep in mind this was 04 and in terms of internet marketing/ecommerce there were no classes or schools teaching this stuff. Also, I had a job in the field I was studying (IT/network administration) because of this I got hands on experience of what the field was actually like and what I was learning in school was woefully out of date compared to what was going on in the "real world" so that made me hate school even more (and this was at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, so it wasn't a second rate tech school.)

That said it was an extremely hard decision to make, and it is and will be very tough taking the route I did. Lots and lots of hard work, stress, and uncertainty for sure.

College age is the right time to make the choice though. Now that I am married with two little kids I'm not sure I would take the same risks as I did back then.

One thing that's really important is that I knew with 100% certainty I was making the right decision. There was no doubt at all, no regret, no second guessing. I knew it to my core.

I think that's how you have to feel to make the leap.

Don't leave college for any reason. Internet Marketing will be there for you when you finish your degree if that is what you want to do.

The fact is that 5% (or less) will and the rest will fail. I am making money through Internet marketing, but I am also a 6th grade social studies teacher. Some people will make a ton of money on the Internet, but, I make a decent amount and when I combine what I make through Internet marketing with my 40k/ year as a newer teacher, I now make a nice living. Stay in school so you have something to fall back on.

I agree with you completely! Life is LONG, you never know what the future has in stock and a good university degree will have you prepared for the worst!

In nowadays, many people by measuring life with numbers. Of course, it made something simple, every normal man knows that 10 > 1 in most ways.

But I think there are still many many things far more beyond numbers. For example, this decision which you would made. If you consider it in numbers way, it is really simple.You do IM ,if your IM things can constantly and give you a steady (or even
ascending) income, then you can leave school. Otherwise you should just stay and continue.

Now Let's go back to your first spot of your query, why you ask that question? I think there are two major facts. The one is IM feed your needs in some way(money,hobby,,,),the other is school has something displeasure.People always think that they can solve the problem or make more progress through changing place or work, but the answer is "no". The trouble always there in one way or another. We can see many people do make more progress after changing position,but remember, it is always after someone solved his problems.

School has its merit and demerit, so does the sociaty or any other things.I am from china, and the shools in china have been criticized many years, but I never quit my college even I have ability to, even there are many boring courses everyday. Why? I found many other things I can learn from school(even the school, the courses are criticized by many), I made many truely friends there which I found it is hard in sociaty after several years working life.

Life is experience, it is far more beyond numbers.No one will know the future, and nobody will make the definitely right decision. Just consider prudently, and just make it.


If I were you,and face the same situation, I will not ask that question. Instead, I will ask myself " What kind of life I am going to look for?" And if you figure this out, I think leave or not will never be a problem for you.

I'd say stay in school. They're always going to need educated people on this planet (in my opinion), and the internet is only something you should rely on if you have LOTS of money saved. At least I think so, I would never do IM full time unless I was banking twice my expenses every month and had enough money for a rainy couple months.. Again just my opinion.

STAY IN SCHOOL AT ALL COSTS. If you're just starting internet marketing then you definitely should not drop out of school to pursue it. Let's say you have multiple revenue streams and now it's getting to be too much work. OUTSOURCE! This is the best time to learn outsourcing because chances are, you are able to outsource at least some of your work. College is also a great way to network. Get involved in clubs related to what your doing. If you're starting up a business, looking for a coder, or doing anything else to improve your business, your college more often than not will have the resources available.

I already left college after 2 years for IM. I'm on pace to make double what the average salary of a college graduate is right out of college and I've only been doing it for a little over a year now. I still have a long way to go.

Me too in college and never thought of leaving it.

Working as a freelancer,but hard to get works and maintaining is also hard in spare time after my college.

So searched for other ways to make money and joined BHW recently.

Learning and trying out things here.Hoping to make success.

I dropped out of university to pursue full time IM and went back a couple of years ago to finish my degree. I actually really regret not just finishing it at the time. The unfinished degree really weighs on your subconsciously, and when you go back you're that little bit too old to enjoy the social opportunities that college affords.

Finish your degree - you've got the whole rest of your life to work on IM.

nope... you don't know if IM will be forever.
I work 40hr/week, take classes at a college and do IM... still have time for other things.

I took IM fulltime, but never thought of leaving the school. It's better, if you continue school. Don't know if there is an option in your country, but there is an option to study parttime in my country.
