Hey guys, I just noticed something with a Google result. I was doing a search for "atlanta seo" (without the quotation marks) and the first rank result had Google Places info below the usual search result, as well as an info box on the right side.

Just do a search for atlanta seo to see it, but I've also included a screenshot here with the red box highlighting what I'm talking about. I can't paste images yet, but here: imgur dot com slash j3jS6

Anyone know how this is being done? Is Google automatically doing this?

I thought initially that his mouse cursor might just be over the box but it aint. Any ideas on this? i've embedded the image for easier viewing

If you're ranked number one you get some extra props from the G.

Thanks for the post Baadier. Just to be clear to everyone, I'm interested to know how to get both of those highlighted areas show up on a search, not just the box on the right.

I too am interested in how to get my result there in addition after looking at the alternative search of "seo in atlanta"(obviousely removing my pws) i get this page:

3lWgl

Why the difference and how much control do you have over it. Why does G choose the first styled page and then the second styled page for the different searches?

This is the new google place layout... And, its been here since months (I guess you have noticed it now)

Business owner has nothing to do with this, this update is done by Google.

I did search and comes up with the same result.

Subscribed! I am interested in knowing if we can do anything outside of listing it on Google places

But why is it showing only one Google Place result? Surely they're not the only company in Atlanta optimized for "seo atlanta". So how come they're the only one that gets their Google Place listing to show up, and on top of that they get all that space on the right side. Those are what we're all wondering.

I didn't got the same results, the site doesn't appear in my first 10 results.

Google has been testing things A LOT with Google Places over the last 6 months. The layout often changes from one local search to the next. I would guess they are doing some multivariate testing to work out what gives the user the best experience (or more likely gives them the most $$$!).

Yes this has been in place for many months now. It's an automated thing by the big g if it feels you are the most relevant result.

They are constantly changing things so I wonder when the next change in places will be.

I think we all know what's coming next... get businesses hooked on free Google Places, then start pushing paid Google Places until the only way to compete is to pay. So make hay while the sun shines!

Yeah I think there is a huge chance of this happening. It would be billions of extra dollars in the bank for Google every year.

They already have a paid google places option. It's called google AdWords express!
They give you the option to bid for certain keywords, they automatically add your areas of business (geographically) and you get a different coloured pin.

People, people, people. Google will lie to you.

When you are signed to a Google account, your personal tendencies will "flavor" the results.

If you look at a site many times, Google will raise the ranking for that site when you search because it thinks the site has relevance to you for your search.

I built a local handyman site. Good site, many pages, quality content, did everything right.

As usual, I spent a week tweaking, and it looked pretty good.

MS told me it was # 17 in Google, so I massaged it a little.

Then one day I got up and checked the site, and lo and behold, number 1 spot in Google for "Houston handyman". Man I was thrilled, am I a SEO God or what? One month old site on top of Google beating out all very well established contenders!! Woohoo!!

I shot the owner a really fabulous e-mail telling him the good news.

Only, funny thing, when he searched for it in Houston (like I did), the site was at 15.

I did not understand this (this was about two years ago). I asked around. No one had a clue.

I have more than one Google account and I signed out of one account to sign into another. For whatever reason, I did a search on my handyman keyword, and lo and behold, right there at 15. I signed into my main account, lo and behold, spot 1 on the first page. I signed out and signed into one of my other gmail accounts, and sure enough, spot 15.

I don't know if anyone else has seen it, but Google decided that since I spent so much time there, that site had value to me and elevated it in MY SERPs, but only when I was signed in.

MS told me it was 15 when I checked as I should have done before I sent the good news. I verify all rankings thru MS before I run my big fat mouth now. That was embarrassing.

Google + is going to make it worse.

Hey hi!
What i am goin to ask is bit deviated from this topic. I was searching the same what is being discussed here bt found something that made me to ask this question.

i found few sites were displaying inner pages links like contact us, seo plans etc. is it possible to add inner pages links in the description.

can't post images so plz try n understnd my question. (try n search india seo, may you can understnd what i wanna say)

What your seeing are either site link, or inpage anchor links. The in page anchor links are called something else officially that I can't quite place right now, but its a way of splitting one massive page of text into smaller, relevant paragraphs. Here is an example:
Code:
 http://seo-website-designer.com/Page-Anchor-Links#part2

The sitelinks are displayed under the meta desc in the serps and these are generated automatically by the big g themselves.

Hope this helps.
Bhd,
