A site of mine is getting a huge amount of mobile traffic. What's the best way to monetize this?

Also, what are the things that I can do to ensure that mobile traffic is effective?

Depends what your site is. If your site has the potential to be turned into an app then I personally would make two apps, a free and a paid for one. I would then check the useragent and show a page that says something like, "This site is best viewed on our FREE (android/iphone) app" and the option to skip. I'd then use the free app to push traffic to the paid app, maybe have a splash screen at the start explaining why they should upgrade/what benefits they get and so on.

Hhhhmm..that's actually a good idea. I'll look into it.

Anything else? Like are there offers/products I can place there to take advantage of mobile traffic?

There are tons of mobile ad networks like adsense you can throw onto your site...

is your site mobile friendly ?
i know how to montize it if its not mobile friendly ;)
let me know if you are interested

You just need a mobile optimized version of the site, if it is wordpress there are a lot of solutions available as plugins, if it is not, there are still some pretty easy ways to do it using CSS depending on what the structure of your site is...

Ultimate Guitar Tabs have a decent app that got me putting my hand in my pocket. I use their site to grab guitar tabs from time-to-time via my PC. I went to their site using my iPhone the other day to see an awesome mobile optimized squeeze page, probably the best I have seen that has been optimized for iphones. Check it out, it may give you some ideas of how you can turn your site into an app.

you can make it as a subscription based site if you have compelling contents on your site.. so tat user wil be willing to pay or make it free & integrate with some mobile ad networks...

If you get internatinal mobile traffic you should try a mobile affiliate network like kissmyads. They have tons of international mobile offers with mobile billing and therefore high CPAs.

Just install a mobile redirect script within your site and redirect the mobile traffic directly to their mobile offers.

Best,

Check out AppstoresDOTcom. I just started use their mobile website ads on about 15 of my app related domains. Decent eCPMs so far. They show apps only, so the CTR is pretty high (~1-2%).

I think that you can consider selling this mobile traffic of yours. You can use CPA networks also that are available for mobile sites.

Try Offer Mobi
There are some mobile offers you can display on your site.

Offermobi, Sponsormob, (Leadbolt now has mobile banners and options)

Clickbank > Marketplace > Advanced > View offers with mobile properties enabled, this will give you a bunch of Clickbank offers that are completely mobilized.

If you take the route mentioned above and turn your website into an app, you can use Admob/Airpush and other mobile application advert companies.

To mobilize your site, just look for WPTouch on this forum, it will make it so mobile users are automatically directed to your mobile site, which you can populate with mobile adsense (pays well, BUT DO NOT PUT ON AN APP, so if you use this route, DO NOT MAKE AN APP OF YOUR WEBSITE WITH ADSENSE, UNLESS YOU WANT BANNED), you can turn your mobilized page where you capture peoples e-mails, to either promote offers and better yet bring them back to your regular site on their main PC.

This is just scratching the surface, there are so many possibilities.

His a realistic breakdown:

Admob: Garbage money unless app literally goes viral (or if you build a massive network of free apps, but don't bank on living off of it).

Airpush: If you have an awesome app, this can pay very well. Again, it depends on how many downloads your app gets, and people will quickly comment and brand it as an Airpush spam app but don't let that get to you.

Clickbank: I have launched 7 apps that tailor to Clickbank, only 1 of them actually turned into anything, and it averages 15 sales a month, nothing to write home about but extra money none the less and has the potential to grow.

Offermobi/SponsorMob: Who are you targeting and does your audience want a new IPAD? Just saying, some random audiences convert on these mobile CPA offers like crazy, at $1.50 a pop e-mail submit.

Find a profitable vein, HACK HACK HACK HACK HACK until its lifeless, then find another!

Have a mobile template of the site. Mobile optimization is the key. Don't know much about developing apps, especially when I don't know what your site is about.

Hard to make a serious suggestion without knowing the niche, but a mobile version of your site(paid with carrier billing) could work best. Not everybody wants to install an app just to visit a website.
