Anonymous attacking Sony for supporting SOPA

My god man, are you really that thick headed and ignorant? Do you even understand the reasoning behind opposing child labor? The issue is that people would like to see the parents of these children working, and the children having the opportunity to go to school and get an education. Of course, that seems ideal. But what if school is not available, and the childs parents are not physically capable of work? What if the only way a child can live with their family, and feed their family is to work?

I would like you to watch this video. This is a man who never received a proper education. He was working manual labor since age of 7. His parents couldn't afford food lots of the time. He has since grown up to be a very productive member of society and though his lack of education will limit what he can achieve, he will be able to live a life full of much happiness, simply because he survived.

Now, I want you to understand that if there if a child serves no purpose, doesn't provide anything, then it gives no incentive for adults to feed, clothe and shelter them. They are left to die. So, would you rather see more children NOT ALLOWED to work, and left to starve or forced into a life of prostitution and drugs? Or children LEGALLY making money doing manual labor? Because school just ISN'T an option for many children in the world.

Lol man you are screwed up.

Now, I want you to understand that if there if a child serves no purpose, doesn't provide anything, then it gives no incentive for adults to feed, clothe and shelter them.

Yeah that makes no sense, so sorry don't understand. And showing me an example of how ONE kid did okay in life doesnt convince me that child labor is right.

Besides, you missed jazzc's point completely.

Whether or not YOU PERSONALLY are affected is insignificant when considering if it is right or wrong. Try to catch the neighborhood thief, even if he hasn't stole from your house yet.

Because some people will starve to death or have to sell their bodies as prostitutes if they are not allowed to legally seek employment. Simple.

Never heard such a thing as illegal work???? Or is there suddenly a shortage of supply for ultra low-paid, uninsured jobs?

So, you are very confident that the kids in those 6+ sized families in 3rd world countries are the only ones capable of work... :snowwave:

Lets follow your lead and send them to break stones since there 's no school near by. :AR15firin

So, not only do the kids deserve breaking stones, but their parents are also bloodsucking animals that have no love for them?

You are really pissing me off. This isn't a game. You do realize children are STARVING TO DEATH right? You do realize children are being FORCED INTO PROSTITUTION and DRUGS right?

I seriously don't understand how you guys can be so ignorant to the real world. In places like Cambodia, there are kids who become pimps, and pimp out 6-12 year old girls all day to make money. Now wouldn't it be better if all of those kids could work in a factory?

Sure, it would be BEST if they could go to school, but that obviously isn't an option for their situation. Working in a factory means that you will probably one day be able to leave that lifestyle. Working as a prostitute means you will probably be stuck in that lifestyle for ever.

I appreciate your effort, but that post contained absolutely no information about how I personally will be hurt by SOPA, except to say, "other" websites MAY be taken down.

Perhaps you are right. Maybe my post did not lay down any concrete examples of how SOPA might affect you on a personal level.

Obviously if you were running websites of your own that were allowing the free use of copyrighted music or movies you would be affected. But there is no disputing that, as that has been made well and truly clear - and this isn't something that would impact you.

Let's turn to some other examples, though. Have you listened to music, watched documentaries, movies or trailers on YouTube before? Obviously you have. Everyone has. The chances that you have actually viewed copyrighted content uploaded 'illegally' is almost a complete certainty.

With SOPA, that stuff can all be taken down without any hesitation. So, that there, is the beginning of how it might affect you on a personal level.

Additionally, SOPA will impact those inside the US, even when the subjective content is hosted outside of the US. The SOPA bill will allow the US Government to essentially force ISP's to block content to overseas website. They will have the ability to block YOU from viewing content that you may want to view, because in their opinion it may be copyright material - but it extends past just 'copyright'. Clearly now there will be 'room' for other 'subjective content' to be blocked and resulting in YOU not being able to see or access it (without circumventing - if that is possible).

That's probably just touching on how it might affect you, because like you, I don't know the bill inside out. There's plenty more to chew.

I understand your main support for SOPA is to stop piracy. That's fine. But obviously you're missing the point.

If you take a look at the list below, these are all companies that publicly do NOT support SOPA. Please take a look at the companies, and realize that there is a huge amount of support from companies whose main/fundamental business model does not rely on profiting from pirated movies or music.

So if they are supporting it, and without linking their support to some type of monetary profit they might be at risk losing if SOPA passes, then I have to ask you why you are against most of the internet and choosing to support this bill? It's fine to oppose, but if you want to oppose it - you're going to need to start coughing up some of your own evidence as to why it is so good and in no way has the potential to harm the average internet user. Take a look for yourself, please don't rely on me to convince you. There is plenty of information online.

Without delay, here is the list - which you can verify as having publicly stated they do not support SOPA.

It feels like he's making child labor to look like charitable organizations. The people who use children for labor dont usually care bout the childs well being. If that were the case they would teach a man(child) to fish(taken literally or figuratively). They want to squeeze blood out of rocks, so they use cheap child labor

Do you see the kids in the pics I posted above working in a Nike/Apple/whatever factory????? This is their way into a better lifestyle?????

Read this, and comment on ONLY this.

A UNICEF study found that after the Child Labor Deterrence Act was introduced in the US, an estimated 50,000 children were dismissed from their garment industry jobs in Bangladesh, leaving many to resort to jobs such as "stone-crushing, street hustling, and prostitution", jobs that are "more hazardous and exploitative than garment production".

Tell those kids how you would rather they work as stone-crushers or prostitutes illegally, then have legal employment as a garment maker.

I 'd rather they were in school rather that on employment. You 'd rather they were on the mines, so you answer to them. Tell them that your plan to make their lives better was to let all kids legally work as slaves.

If a child comes to me and asks for work to feed his starving family, I would give it to them. Simple as that. If 200 children come to you, and you can afford to just GIVE them money, but you could afford to pay them for labor, isnt that better then just turning them away?

Do you see the kids in the pics I posted above working in a Nike/Apple/whatever factory????? This is their way into a better lifestyle?????

So then you are against child labor? Or what EXACTLY are you against? If the children were working in REGULATED environments, indoors, for no more then 8 hours per day on a livable income, would you be against that still, if there is no schools nearby for them to attend?

So then you are against child labor?

Yes. My point (which you missed) was that before going into prostitution and drugs, which are also illegal, there are other less violent/harmful jobs to get, if one is inclined or forced to. Not that I am advocating that.

I see what your saying, but if a child came to me needing food, i'd feed them and teach them how to fish, hunt, farm... but i understand where your coming from. This is a debate over a word, when the real debate should be a solution to the problem

Basically everyone of those companies you listed has a LOT to lose because they host or link to copyright materials. Can you show me an example of a company that is very against SOPA, who actually makes original content for sale as their main source of income?

If SOPA passed, it may mean that any content sharing sites or hosts would have to moderate everything before it goes live on the internet. That would be a HUGE headache, and most probably would be impossible for 99% of companies to do. But if we wanted to watch things, we could get it through LEGAL avenues, or choose to live without it.

I enjoy streaming movies and music, but I recognize it is illegal and can't be mad that people want to profit from their own creations. People act like there wouldn't be further fine tuning of SOPA and that the government would act without reasonable thinking to shut down websites.

There is no trust for the government, and THAT is why people are afraid. The government has a LOT of power to do crazy things already, that doesn't mean they do it just on a whim. What if when SOPA was passed, they further created a Board of Directors which had to approve actions with an 70% approval or higher, and it was made up of people from many top companies INCLUDING Sony, Google, Paypal etc. Would it be so bad then?

If media companies really want to end alot of the piracy then they need to offer more online options. With the money they spent trying to regulate the Internet, they could have easily invested in Industry Wide online distribution service and made alot more money.

True. If I could pay to watch a movie at home (that just came out in the movies) for the same price as a movie ticket - I would.

But then, with the current situation, that would only give better access to pirating new movies as people would just record it in their own homes. But maybe piracy of movies wouldn't even be such a big issue at all (perhaps much much less popular) if the general public was just able to pay a small fee and watch the movie in the comfort of their own home.

Well yes, of course ideally I would just take the child under my wing and support them without needing them to work a structured job 8 hours per day, but if 200 kids came to me, I obviously wouldn't have that choice. If I could get them employment, I think that is a better option then just turning them away to be taken in by the Pimps and Gangs.

I 'd rather they were in school rather that on employment. You 'd rather they were on the mines, so you answer to them. Tell them that your plan to make their lives better was to let all kids legally work as slaves.

School is not an option for MILLIONS of children! Do you not get that? Some places simply do not have accessible school. If a child lives in a town without a school, born to poor parents, and a man offers to let him work in his shop shining jewels, in exchange for enough money to buy 2 meals per day, I can't understand why you are against that.

I think if a bill like SOPA passed, entertainment companies would work to offer more at home options. Right now, like you say, it isn't worth it to them because the second they put something online, another site can rip it or copy it and it can stay up for longer periods of time before any action is taken. There is a lot of paperwork to take down a site. Its giving no incentive to provide cheap alternatives for online viewing.

Imagine an account where you could pre-load $20.00, and it would deduct $2.00 per viewing of an online movie if its older, and $5.00 if its still in theater (2 week delay from theater release date)? I would use that for sure. If pirating weren't an issue, I think that would be fully possible.

so you dont like pirated content? do you own of these big companies that have millions of dollars?...this is bhw

5 dollars for a release in theater? dreaming - imagine being able to get anything for free if you know where to look- oh wait that's the internet

You've highlighted one of the very problems that has raised the concern about this SOPA bill.

You said that everyone of the companies I listed has a lot to lose 'because they host or link to copyright materials'.

My response to that is, "really?". All of the companies I listed links to or hosts copyrighted material? No. Sure, maybe they all LINK to copyrighted material in some way - but they sure as hell don't all host copyrighted material.

So now we've refined what has been said, and we can say that they all do NOT support SOPA because all of the companies there contain LINKS to copyrighted material. If you had said that, then yes - I would agree with your statement. They do all, more than likely, somewhere, have at least a link to copyrighted material.

But, there we have the problem. Do you really think it's fair to take down a site, or otherwise punish a website by restricting it's ability to run their business (Govco. can remove their payment processors) simply because a user of theirs dropped a link to a potentially 'copyrighted' file or website?

That's where the whole problem is. These companies don't blatantly host copyrighted material, but many of them might indirectly link to it. And in those cases where they might be linking to it, more than likely a user of their service has dropped the link. So why should the website be punished for it?

Just like you said, they'd have to spend a ton of money to try and enforce something as stupendously silly as removing 'subjective links'. Let's assume that they COULD afford to even do something so massive, as to check all links. If this was the case, to use a simple example, Facebook wouldn't be what it is today. Can you imagine posting a status or a reply to someones comment - and having it not show immediately because it needs to be 'checked'?

How absolutely ridiculous would that be. That's SOPA right there for you. Reaching way too far and pretty much invading the business space and operations of legitimate websites like Facebook (in the above example).

By your own explanation, these companies are against SOPA because even linking to a potentially copyrighted website or file could get them punished or taken down - do you think that's wrong of them? I certainly wouldn't want to risk any of my websites going down because someone left a comment on my blog linking to a site distributing copyrighted files/music/whatever.

Going by the whole 'links to copyrighted content' this forum right here would NOT exist. Thousands of other forums ALL OVER the net wouldn't exist. The impacts are insanely far reaching - and in this case, TOO far. It should be stopped. It is absolutely ridiculous.

Now, I haven't provided you a list as you asked because your initial statement wasn't completely correct. However, in the same respect, I would ask that you dissect the list (that I have already provided for you) and please tell me how each of those companies would somehow be benefiting from opposing SOPA. For the most part, all you're going to come up with is "they link to copyrighted content" - and we've already discussed just how absurd it would be to TAKE DOWN websites for something as little as a hyperlink.

That's it right there, isn't it? You've just said it yourself, it would be likely impossible for 99% of companies to moderate user generated content. By your own statement, most of these websites would have to shut down (or be forced shut down anyway by SOPA) because of impractical expectation to moderate all of this content.

You say it would be fine, though, because you would obtain said content through legal channels. Can you name these 'legal' avenues for me please? If the file sharing sites are ALL shut down due to the impractical approach of moderating all uploaded content - what legal avenues are we left with?

We wouldn't even have a practical and efficient way of sharing content with people (legitimate content) because file sharing sites would be non-existent. All because of SOPA sticking it's nose way too deep.

I enjoy streaming movies and music, but I recognize it is illegal and can't be mad that people want to profit from their own creations. People act like there wouldn't be further fine tuning of SOPA and that the government would act without reasonable thinking to shut down websites.

You must be the first person I have ever come across that has full faith in the Government to 'do the right thing'. Honestly, I've never met a person with such a trust in his/her Government.

Are you suggesting SOPA should pass in its current form - and then just wait for the US Gov. to come along and make amendments that the 'people' want? You must be kidding. They're not listening to us NOW, what makes you think they're going to listen when it's already IN PLACE?

Had SOPA already been introduced before WikiLeaks, it's likely most of us would have never even heard of the site. Is that something you would enjoy? Being kept completely in the dark. The US Government, if it has the power, would have definitely taken the website down as soon as it possibly could have, to spare themselves the embarrassment that it has caused.

Would you consider the above action 'reasonable thinking' by the Government? It's not like you can say "they wouldn't have done that" - considering we already know they cut off their funding. We would have never known about any of the WikiLeaks content - and personally, I would rather have the freedom to see what's on that site rather than not be aware of it's existence.

With respect, you're taking it out of context. There has been no mention of a Board of Directors and thus it is merely wishful thinking.

You state it yourself, that the people do not trust the Government - because of the crazy things that they have done, and continue to do. I'm wondering where your continued trust and belief in the Government is coming from. This is a serious law, and we shouldn't give the Government the benefit of the doubt.

We know the Government is crazy. We know that the law, on paper, looks crazy. We'd have to be crazy to think its not a cause for concern.

5 dollars for a release in theater? dreaming - imagine being able to get anything for free if you know where to look- oh wait that's the internet

Imagine that the movie production companies were able to make more movies, with bigger budgets then ever before, because their profit margins are HUGE and they are able to profit from more people then ever before. Theater, Video on Demand, Rentals, Streaming,Purchases. They would be able to lower their prices, and still end up making more money.

When I was a kid, I saw Austin Powers 7 times in the theater with different groups of friends. 7 times @ $5.00 per show. I have been to the movie theater 3 times in the last 6 years due to internet. It isn't the cost that bothers me, its that its actually EASIER to get FREE pirated movies then it is to buy something legally. I think thats the same for lots of people. It needs to be easier to buy something, then to get it illegally.

Oh, and imagine a place where you can get banned for having your affiliate link in your signature- oh wait that's the internet. You can't put links in Signature without being a donor or jr vip.
