Hey folks, so an aquaintense of mine is redoing his website. We spoke on the phone today and he was very excited about the "deal" he was getting. Basically it just a wp template customized for his company ($500) blog intergration ($750) wtf?? And copywriting for his site $3200!!! Holy hell! Blog intergration? Isn't that just simply ticking a dropdwon box in wp settings? Also the copywriting, $3200? I know he wants unique, seo friendly info on his site but I think that is steep! Am I wrong?

Oh forgot to mention...he is also paying extra for social media integration which I am assuming is just putting buttons in his sidebar....don't remember how much though......

Ofcourse your acquaintance is getting ripped off! This is why Offline is a goldmine.

I'll admit it, it happened to me way back before I knew anything about IM.

A decent copywriter can easily charge $10k for a sales page. I'm not saying these guys are any good, but $3200 isn't unheard of in the copywriting world.

As Cartman say

Why dont you let me put on lipstick before you FUCK ME MUM
feel the same way...forgot to mention $300 p month for hosting too!

really? That's insane imo. This is for a financial biz operated "locally" s that is basically about us, homepage, services etc....

I asked the guy to send me the contract and the url of this co....off the top of my head he is paying $5-$6k for a wp site and another $3200 p year to host. Might jv with someone here and get him a better deal.

In this case, it may well be insane.

But if you're selling a product/service, even a 1% increase in conversion rate can be worth hundreds of thousands in increased revenue over a decent period of time.

fair enough... do you do this type of work btw? :)

I just heard of someone who paid $4k for a simple WP site, I saw what it looked like and was amazed how a simple 30min research online was not sought out by these people of how easy it can be to create WP sites......

Blog integration might mean matching blog theme with website theme. I'd actually use wordpress for both and make website pages as wp pages and the blog as posting category. Easier to control. It shouldn't be 750$ though.

About the copy writing. If it is a sales page. Yeah I know writers who might charge that much for a sales page and it is not expensive if it converts so well. Depends on your profit margin of the product you are selling anyways.

No this stuff is rampant in smaller cities, especially where I'm from in the south. People just don't know what the #$%@ is going on. I've seen so many of these slippery web design companies build "amazing" sites for people.

There's a guy who charged a local startup investment bank $100,000 for a shitty MS frontpage built site, along with a video (which he outsourced), and some business cards. My jaw literally hit the floor when I saw the work of the "genius". He's a genius alright, just not in the way they are thinking..

that is why i was planning on going offline but still looking for a partner who can find clients and i'll outsource everything. :D

I know a few copywriters that charge $30k for a sales letter and upsell package.

I guess it all depends on what the copywriters past results are, if they have had 10 clickbank numbers 1's then they can basically charge whatever they feel like but if they do not have the success to back up there prices I would say you are getting ripped off.

My friend leads a design shop, his team built a fairly simple site in 6 hours, that they charged their client $3K for, their client charged $30K to the hotel (who the site for ultimately for).

The salesmen/marketers are alot of times the ones ending up with biggest chunk of the $, not the people who actually deliver the product/service.

Depends how much content hes getting made for the site. A good professional writer (not the kind you'll find round here) can easily charge $20+ per hour or multiple k for sales copy.
