Case study: ranking a 60k keyword

Also thinking about getting some links going on High PR society.

Be careful, I had 9 home page links from these guys then discovered they was all on the same class c. They have since indicated that this has been sorted now and they have much more diversity so I would check this first.

I spent about an hour last night reading reviews and saw a fair few people that have since tested a range of links and articles and found diversity to be good.

So I'm prepared to give it a go:)

this is a helpful list when compiling competitor report for clients, are there any others missing off this list?

Do you mean in this case or general categorisation of sites? I guess there would be a few more:
Non-profits
Directories
Commercial sites
Etc

I have now decided to do a two pronged attack, Im going to use the original keyword:
"keyword one" (two words), and a secondary keyword which is the same but has a proceeding word:

"word keyword one" - local monthly searches for this keyword are 4400, my site is currently #10-#15 for this keyword.

Im not selling out on the big one, but I have been advised it would be good to spread the risk a bit:)

For me it will be good to see the movement of each term - personally I think the competition for the second keyword wont be that different, like to here your thoughts:

MS report for second keyword (4400 searches):

And as before:
1.plural EMD for other keyword (co.uk also in other top10)
2.plural EMD for other keyword (also in other top10)
3.regulatory body (also in other top10)
4.close competitor (also in other top10)
5.same as above (also in other top10)
6.regulatory body (also in other top10)
7.close competitor (also in other top10)
8.plural EMD of other keyword (.com)
9.authoritive site in the industry not 100% related to keyword, but same niche
10.me! :)

As you can see, most of the same sites are there, and Im #10, makes me think comparatively it shouldn't be THAT hard to rank for the bigger keyword - I would appreciate opinions...

yeah I mean in terms of classifying your competitors

Ah thought so:) yea guess there's the ones I listed and probably a few more. It just so happens in the niche I know almost all of the real competition (I have been working on the site for 6 years). -not ashamed to say ive learned more in my 6 months at Bhw than I had in the previous 5 years;)

I hear you....I did SEO on my first site in 1999 and ive learned more since I joined this site in May than in all the previous years combined.

and still got a lot more to learn.

Anyone got opinion on this?? ^^

Just setting up High PR Society Account as well, I think I will wait till the Deadly SEO campaign is finished, then load up some high PR Links to add to the mix:)

the info on this thread is must read with the knowledge being given by david and turtle. Question I have for David and you may have already shared...what services will you be using? I see High PR and Deadly SEO.

I think this is going to be a very hard road. But goddamn, if you get there, you should really be proud of yourself!

So true, I get 40 visitors a day for a 70,000 exact keyword at page 1 / position 4

Really? What kind of keyword? If it is a spelling mistake then it would be believable as people click the "Did you mean...".

Are you sure you are ranking #4? What tools you using to check?

Deadly SEO first (chaos package). Want to see how that goes first.
Then I will use high pr society.

Also looking at some bookmarking (probably extremeboy's service), manual blog commenting, wiki links and maybe some edu links, then hit everything with dripable.

And it should be what 500 or so going by averages?
Have to tried changing meta description? So your listing is more appealing?

this is interesting... once you got the formula to get to first page you just need to do good keyword research. Keywords that have high profit / low competition. I found many of these keywords come from branded term and most of them are not allowed in ppc
