SOPA and GoDaddy

Honestly, it was a good read. I hate what godaddy has done for the SOPA bill and this bill is being pushed by extremely weathly men like Bill Gates just so Microsoft will make more money..... terrible....

Also I lovedddd the comments!!! They are amazingly funny. They started having political debates about the bill. I just hope that it won't be passed. It is terrible that congress wants to censor the internet....

I do think Godaddy's involvement with SOPA is a bit fishy but is it really wrong that Microsoft will be allowed to make more money legitimately?

You have a point there haha I mean personal I am agaisnt "big business" because I think prices for products that companies like Microsoft and Adobe produce are extremely expensive.

As a side, does anyone know how the SOPA bill will affect things like open source?? I heard somewhere that numerous open source people are extremely angry towards the bill.

they are monopolizing the internet they can destroy any slight competition they would like. if the law passes bhw will start to get shit too. you will see most large sites not owned by big business shutting down. they are already abusing their power. Recent example megaupload song on youtube. this is a pretty serious bill that can affect most of bhw users.

definitely

but man, if people like Gates are putting money into this bill, i have a bad feeling its gonna pass

looks like it may lead to a "cyber war" then the people opposed will become "cyber terrorist" then there will be a "cyber war on terror" leading to heavy internet censorship.

GoDaddy has suffered alot already and its competitor NameCheap is running a vigorous campaign against it which is further damaging GoDaddy..Feels like one's loss is other's gain..

Are you guys moving your domains? I've got about 49 of them and I'm in the process of transfer. I've never really been that big of a fan of GD anyway so this was just the straw that broke the camels back I guess. Godaddy is a HUGE company, I really can't see them being too affected by this in the long run but there are some big numbers being posted up over the past couple days. 20k+ domains a day exiting Godaddy.

Thats great news to hear!!

I have a feeling that people will be almost forced to take sides in this arguement if the bill passes because it will affect how we use the internet.

If you agree with the bill then you will prolly be "exempt" from something.. similiar to how it mentions godaddy in the bill.

If you disagree with the bill then you will be pinned as a pirate or something of that nature because you simply dont agree with what there doing...

Is there no middle ground in the debate?

I'm not a pirate and I don't like the SOPA bill, what are you trying to say?

Just because they "claim" to stop piracy acts with the SOPA bill, doesn't mean they can't censor something else they don't like, such as WikiLeaks. Or maybe websites in the similiar categories exposing any kind of corrupted governments that the people should know. Or any websites that they claim "harmful" but has nothing to do with piracy.

SOPA is just one bill away for letting the government know it's okay to control over their citizens.

If you let the government censor one thing, what's stopping them censoring the NEXT thing, if not EVERYTHING.

Plus, I think the exemption is stupid. I think that's just a way to get large companies to support SOPA as a reward for exemption from the bill. Why else would the government give exemptions?

This would affect BHW users as well, as censoring the internet cuts down people/traffic, meaning cutting down profits/revenue. Possibly even other ways it will indirectly affect us.

The internet should be open and free from the government's control.

If you hadn't heard, the founding fathers (who led to the creation of the internet) is opposing the SOPA. (Google internet-founders-oppose-sopa).

UPDATE:
GoDaddy no longer supports SOPA: godaddy com/newscenter/release-view.aspx?news_item_id=378 SUPPOSEDLY

I still moved my domains though, I can't trust them like that anymore. Read their page, they still sound like they support SOPA, even after claiming they're not.
