How much does it cost you to start up a website from scratch?

like everyone says, it depends on niche and industry but my average is somewhat around $300 to get it profitable and make the initial investment back.

lol, you make $50k/month?

That's consulting rates, you don't work at that for 37.5 * 4.2

Rand's guys used to charge $1000/hr and Sean @ SEO_Hacker charges $570 last time I checked. $300/hr is the low side for decent consultants.

10 bucks for domain and hosting like 10 bucks a month although it is used for all my sites. :)

domain : Free co.uk from gbbo.co.uk
hosting : free hosting
wordpress : free
theme : free magazine theme
article : free from wp robot
wp robot : get free from forum
so for new site, price is FREE

Domain -- 9.00 us, I resell
hosting -- 0 i have a small hosting company
articles -- free -- write or rewrite myself
templates -- free can code my own, have a lot of them to use
pictures == 0 to 15, depending where I get them
seo right now manual, adding tools next 2 weeks

Domain: $9
Hosting: $0 (just plop it on my dedicated server)
Links: $0 I'll either build a site that gets a ton of natural links or use SB on a site that only gets a few natural links. I don't build sites that no one wants to link to.
Articles: $0 I do it myself, and prefer interactive content to articles anyway.
Coding: $0 do it myself

Grand total $9

And my sites look like shit. I'm not an artist. After they make $500 I reinvest that to have the template professionally redone. If it can't make $500 with a shitty look, there's no point in having it.

How the hell does he justify charging $570 per hour (Sean @ SEO_Hacker, just checked out his site).

Is he Matt Cutts boyfriend? Does he have some sort of insider information? Haha

My only cost is the articles.i spend $1 per article, each day 15-20 articles.

Perhaps you can share with us the place you can get $1 per article.
I guess this is written, but that's better if it's human.

And lol @ $1 articles. Come on guys, use your brain. Do you really think you can get quality articles at $1. Not a chance. You get what you pay for.

Thanks for everyone who has posted on the thread.

What I have learned is:
Most people create their own content
Most people spend little on seo - since the are not ranking for a difficult keyword
Time is important to people

On average, I think people spend around $40 - $80 per site.

15$/vps hosting. Plus whatever for domains etc
Some say I could have gotten away with shared but I buy VPS because I rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it. Then again whats an extra 10$/mo in exchange for speed and uptime!

I'm not sure as to his justification or if he provides value for that price, but he does have a very strong (somewhat cult like) following at the bottom end of the scale on the social networks. He generates new content (although not new concepts) constantly and has a good engagement rate with his audience.

The guy lives in the Philippines, so you only need to work 10 hours a week to have a pretty comfy life.

$4-5 won't get you quality articles either.
At best they will sound like a 9 year old wrote it, from my experience.

Well, it depends on what type of site you are starting..Like a Adsense Site may take up to 100$ maximum to start...and A Ecommerce can take up to like 10000$...So clear what type of site you want to start.

10 USD for a domain, and 42 usd for a host of ipae.

use free wordpress temple.

what do you mean by interactive content?

depends on the type of website

if it's a product - design is the big mystery, it can go up to thousands of $$

creating a WP template is around $150-$200 and a simple mockup is as low as $50

I got autoblog ranked on #1 without me costing any money. You can do most of the setup yourself, especially keyword research. It is very important.
