Would you sell it on eBay or Craigslist?

I honestly don't know too much about eBay. But I have a brand new, still sealed, iPad 2 (64GB, WiFi + 3G) and I want to sell it.

I tried putting it on Craigslist for $800 (I'm offering some accessories with it too..total value of everything is around $970). Well, all the calls I got were fishy as hell. Some guy wanted to meet me in a mall parking lot at night time..rofl yeah

Personally, for a high value item like this, do you think it'd be a better idea selling it on eBay? My friend has an account with like 6 positive feedback, so it's not like I'd be listing it on a brand new account.

I messed around a bit with listings last night, and the total cost to list it would be around $10 (not bad, I guess, considering the exposure it would get). I was gonna set it at a starting bid of $0.99 and a reserve of $849.99, with a buy it now of $869.99, + free shipping in the United States.

So, what do my fellow eBayers/Craigslist sellers think?

eBay ftw. Although it is shit, it is better than Craiglists IMHO. Never ship the item out until you get a cleared payment. There have been cases where people pay by Paypal, they get their item and then they dispute the money.

How long does it take to clear a payment? Can't they file a dispute any time within 40 days of making the payment? So I'd have to wait 40 days to ship the item?

Ebay is going to hold it for up to 21 days (Your money) or until 3 days after proved delivery OR after positive feedback.

$10 list? sure...but you will pay more than that when it sells. At $869.99 you are paying:

ebay fees-$55.20
paypal-$25.53
Plus cost of shipping, so you're looking at $780 total after all the fees. Just wanted to make you aware if you go that route.

Also, if you're going to sell something that high value, MAKE SURE you buy signature confirmation! I'd recommend insurance, but that would be on the buyer's head if they wanted it.

Yeah, relist it. Don't give out your phone number though. Make them email you. Also, you could say something like "I'm real-the weather in (location) is _________ right now" so they take you a bit more seriously.

Really? Why not give out my phone number? I thought that would make me seem more legit, since they could see my area code?

I just got an email from a guy with the email "[email protected]", but he appears to be real..I mean, we're emailing back and forth, and he is actually located in my city.

Any idea why the email is "[email protected]". Is that how Craigslist hides users emails?

People make fake accounts for Craigslist all the time. I get some real weirdo email accounts with fake names and all. That's fine.

When your selling something of that value PayPal and eBay fees are a joke, I'd say definitely try Craigslist, but be careful!

If you're selling on CL, give them your phone number or have them give theirs. If you talk on the phone, you can figure out a lot of things such as if they're shady or not, and it'll lead to a much more pleasant transaction.
