FB Groups vs Fan Page

Ok, so what is the difference between a Group and a Fan Page? Is there one? If so, which is better for IM?

A group sends notification to all the members when a new post/status is posted. Fan page's posts appears in the home/news feed of the likers.

Facebook pages are the best way of monetizing according to me because, you reach thousands of people effectively with just a status.

Groups have limits of 5000.. if I am not mistaken.
