I disagree that alienware falls apart as my bro has always been using them. They are overpriced though.

Although Asus is my fav and their laptops are sharp looking, I do have to give them dummy points for some issues they had in the past when the first g73 models came out.

Dude, you should have listened to the Dell people. I have an 2.5 year old XPS1530 and it has NEVER let me down. I've worked with computers for 20 years and this is the best I've ever used or had. I need a bigger HDD for it now, but I'll be buried with this, it's just fucking fantastic.

I work for a big I T Distie in the UK, we sell Asus, Acer, Toshiba, Lenovo, Sony Vaio, Samsung and MSI and I wouldn't swap any of the ones we sell for my Dell.

I would definitely take a look at Tigerdirect as well as Newegg, while I know nothing about laptop specifics I found some really, really good deals on there over Newegg.

OMG!! SON, do you have any idea how powerful that laptop is???? Something like that would normally cost more then $2200. You made the smartest choice possible imo.

It has a i7-2670QM so I think after the warranty is gone, you should upgrade it to at least a i7-2760qm so you can get probably somewhere around a 3.5ghz single core mode, 3.2ghz - 3.3ghz dual core mode, and a 2.4ghz to 2.6gh quad mode.

Damn, you should ship it to me instead

I've always had a good experience with HP. I've had 2 HP laptops and they are both still running great after 7 years of use. (have since given to younger siblings). I've seen plenty of great laptop deals at shops here, for example I saw one with a middle range i7 processor, 8 gigs of RAM, 1 gig of dedicated nVidia graphics and a 16" screen just to name a few all for a total of about $800 or so.

I'm not sure if he will regret it or not. He is best waiting until CES next week. I am with you though, get an Ultrabook. The days of heavy laptop computers are coming to an end.

"Have a hundred" are expected to be announced next week with Ivy Bridge Intel core processors. As long as you get one of these, it will have an SSD and be light.

That seller being Amazon? Actually I've been an Asus fan for a loooonnngggg time (after my Dell crapped out). They run smooth and are always great for their price. Also, ridiculously easy to tinker with and clean the insides (actually the G73 is a bit harder compared to G53). Overall, I would say Asus gets my vote for best bang for the buck.

Macbook for style

Lenovo/Thinkpad for reliability

Dell if you want your computer to die within a year ^^.

Asus is great for the price, but you don't need a $1500 if your not gaming.

Better off getting a nice 900 dollar laptop and using the 600 for IM tools or your GF/Wife. Trust me, you don't need 16GB of ram for IM

But it's up to you.
