Suggest me a laptop =)

Well, unfortunately my laptop was stolen on October 20th, 2011 between 7am to 8am. It was stolen from where I work at so I have video of the guy taking it.

Anyway it's been a few months now, and I'm ready to buy a new one. I have a budget of $1,500 to spend on one. I just look at Ram, HDD, and GFX Memory when buying a new computer, so maybe the more technically inclined members here can help me choose one out.

So far I've came up with this one:

You should be reading reviews on newegg more than reviews here. Reviews on that laptop you linked to is horrible.

Get a dell XPS. Amazing specs for a decent price. I myself have one of those.

I can tell you what not to get. Everyone I know, I mean everyone, who has a Toshiba, has problems with wireless internet. The new Dell XPS are supposedly good but read reviews on NewEgg.

What are you looking for in a laptop as far as features?

Backlit keyboard?
Full HD?
Screen size?

I personally feel you get more bang for your buck with the Asus G line and N line.

The G line is the "gamer" geared systems so lots of features.

The N line is the "multi-media" geared systems, great specs but not all the bells and whistles i.e no backlit keyboads on any of the N models.

You can buy 16bg of ram for about $80-90 on Amazon as well since there are 4 slots you can buy 4x4gb sticks, that's 16gb of ram, faster CPU for about $1,025-1,100.

I've been looking at laptops for the last 2-3 weeks and have a bunch of awesome ones bookmarked so if you like what I suggested let me know, I can show you even more. And for $1,500 I could get you a hell of a lot for your money compared to the MSI.

Actually, the one I had was a Toshiba, and I wasn't acctually really upset it got stolen, lol. Was more of a reason to buy a new one.

Whatever you do, make sure you get a solid state drive. No matter how powerful of a laptop you get, you don't want your hardrive slowing down your performance.

Just an example, while nortan was scanning my C drive (SSD) for viruses, it didn't struggle at all, but when it scanned my D drive (Normal Drive), I couldn't watch any blu-ray videos (all my videos are on my D drive). This is because the read/write speed on my D drive was maxed out.

If your read/write is at 100%, no matter what you have, weather a 3.00gb 32 core processor (sarcasm), it ain't gonna do much of anything.

The i7 2630QM is good, but if possible, you want to upgrade it up 1 level (2760qm I think). Either way, whichever one you choose will prove to be better then what you were looking at. Your looking at a 2630 compared to a 2670 after all. We're talking a huge difference between the 2 processors. Don't worry about upgrading any higher then 1 though.

I had this when they were first released so I have the 17-720qm which was the best at the time (but not anymore). I have a g73, but the quality on the g74 is nuts.

I know your budget is $1500, but I'd try to push for a little higher if I were you.

fyi you don't need a thermal upgrade.

If you're looking for durability, I would recommend thinkpad lineup or samsung laptops. You're doing a great job looking at RAM, GPU, and HDD, but you also want to not forget the CPU as it's going to be important. With that budget, you're probably going to want an intel 2nd generation quad core.

I would not recommend Toshiba or Acer for durability as the constructions are poor, and most people do not treat their laptops so nicely, so I see a completely beat up laptop when they ask what's wrong with it...

However, they are missing the vertex solid state and "looks"

vertex **dominates** intel drives

The sager is probably the better choice but if you don't want an average looking lappy, I'd go for an asus.

Wow, that is sexy. Based off the lamborghini. The g73 (and I think 74) is based of of the stealth jet xD

Asus is always doing that. But I still recommend the sager I pointed you to as its stronger then this one (except the graphics card but not by too much) and cheaper.

Thats just the price for a good laptop. They are overpriced due to its portability. Throwing in an SSD will probably jump the price up by $200 or more.

I think Form Factor is the most important factor - the smaller the better. A 11-13" screen, with a nice comfortable backlit keyboard. If you need a bigger screen, plug in an external monitor.
Almost any new model with an i7 (second gen) CPU with lots of ram (min 4gb) and a SSD drive will offer more then enough performance for a power user. The only exception is if you have the need for high performance graphics (games) or need to run a lot virtual machines.
Supplement your laptop with a VPS or two and yo have a highly mobile office that runs 24hrs a day.
I have a macbook air (running Win7) and its light and portable. Ohh the ASUS zenbooks look nice as well.

if you are looking for the best, and you can afford, then go for Macbook Pro..you'll love it after the first touch.

If you are looking for quality at cheaper rates, go for Sony Vaio

Stay away from HP and Acer
