Just got off a conference call with a client interested in SEO, they currently are on the 10th page for a term I already have on page 1 with a site I built myself.

After an hour or so they seemed very happy and asked me to send over the contract so they can cut me a check, so it all looks promising. BUT I never count the chickens before they hatch, until I see the contract and check it is not a success thread...yet.... this is a BHW gather round, hold hands and in unison pray I get the deal done thread.

Oh I managed to convince them they need a new WP site, since I am not a skilled site designer, that means someone on BHW is going to make a few $$'s should the deal get done.

Wish me luck!!

:)

Yep, poor guy has no idea about technology, he wanted to lower his adwords spend (good sign for me) and called me to go in and drop it for him. :)

well that's good to hear that there are some BHW members that still do believe in prayers. :) good luck!! I'll include you in my prayers.

Wotcha mean "still believe in prayers".??

I make a living out of it :)

Actually when you get the contact, thats when the fun starts. I for one would be very interested to know
what they are contracting for, abd how you achieve it. If you ousource, what are your instructions etc etc.
Heck you could make a WSO out of it

Nice work. I'm sure it will all work out if you got the positive vibes from them :) Should of had the contract signed before the call completed. Always good to reel that big fish in once on the hook and not let them flip flop around and maybe get away.

You need to be in control rather than them, by waiting around for them to sign and send they are in control.

Once contract is signed before you hang up the phone, all you need to do is pin down a time when the cheque will be ready to pick up or if you can not make it to their place of business give them your Fed EX or UPS account # or you schedule a pick up for them to courier it to you on your dime.

Make it as easy as possible for them. Hold their hand and show them the way;)

You are right I should have pushed a bit harder. I did manage to create some urgency however since I mentioned the site redesign may take up to 3 weeks :) and then I have to do SEO so if he wanted to be ready by the end of the 1st quarter he had to sign very quickly.

You may also want to look into managing his PPC if you have experience with PPC. You can charge a percentage of what he spends on PPC to manage it. It is good residual money.

We have a client that spends 5 figures per month on PPC. He now spends approximately $300 per day less than when we started with him. Needless to say he is tickled pink with the results.

UPDATE- I was shooting for an annual contract but his partner called and told me he had some concerns with that. For me my intent was to put the majority of the work and $$$ early to get him moving in serps and then of course make up my $$$ and time later as the site starts to build ranking. Obviously he wants to keep me hungry which is not a bad strategy on his part.

I redid the contract and offered a 3month contract with an auto renew 3 months again unless he cancels 30 days prior with the option to renegotiate after both 3 month contracts are completed. It's Friday obviously so i dont expect any word until Monday or Tuesday.

Yeah an idea to "guide" the signing or recieving of a check, I usually shoot an email or call and tell them that I'll be down the street on Tuesday meeting with another client or potential client anyhow so I'm planning on stopping by the office then.
Usually works and makes you look not desperate.

So what's the update Op, I was following along with your inspiring story and then left hanging. I was praying for you as I read this...so what was the outcome?

Oops sorry... I now have 2 clients since this post. Take a peek in the offline section and look for the thread "got my 2nd client" :-)

Agree - at least your WSO would be based on actually walking the walk instead of all the talk the talk BS some of the wannabe WSO offers from the WF.
