Do small updates help seo?

If I have a page that I'm trying to rank up in google does it help to have a time and date on it so it changes every day and google indexes it every day?

I would say, in some cases, yes. Back when I had a site penalized, I could temporarily get it ranking on the front page by add new content, which was cycled through on the homepage.

Now, that same site is ranking #3 for main keyword, and I haven't touched it (content and backlink wise) in over a year.

That might help. What I do is I schedule content to be added every 1-2 days or so.

I'm not saying adding new content. I'm just saying changing existing content by having the date listed in the post. Hence it would change every day.

I have competitor that is doing this and they are ranked #1 and google seems to index them every day.

So basically what you are saying is that you want to change the date stamp on your current posts/pages but not adding new content?

If that's so then no, this sort of update will not really help you at all. Just changing the date on old content is not a good idea for your visitors or for SEO purposes.

You should be adding real value to your sites if you want to be successful.

You should be placing your KWs in the best possible places before publishing your content. If you write your content correctly before hand, there's no need to go back and change your wording around.

That doesn't answer the question man, only a few of my keywords aren't placing high so I was wondering if the content could be tweaked?

Small updates help, but simple tricks like just putting the current date and time on your page, or even just putting the latest news from an RSS feed will usually not help at all (it's not that easy).

To create helpful updates, instead consider creating new pages and blog articles, or add and edit the text on your existing pages.
