Thinking of buying UBOT

Wow why so many hate ubot here lol? I love Zenno but ubot has it's advantages, and i have yet to run into any huge bugs in V4 yet. I prefer Zenno for a lot of things that I run myself, but ubot is more fun and teaches you to think like a programmer, it also makes exe's that you can sell or give to friends. Zenno may be powerful and just as easy to use but it is more of an advanced macro system than an actual program building system. I also feel that because of Zenno, the ubot crew feels pressured into enhance on the strengths that I mentioned that set it apart, that is a good thing. competition will make both tools better in the long run.

Another thing I don't like about Zenno is the business practices of them, they seem greedy and callous, also to really enjoy the program for what it is meant for you need the most expensive version, if you get a lesser version you are wasting your time. Whereas with ubot the lowest priced version is just fine to do all you want.

The reason for hating Ubot to me is because 90% of the programs I attempt to write with it I have had to babysit, for example I wrote a bot to use on facebook to log in to multiple accounts and take desired actions, I had to write an output file from the bot to see how far it makes it threw the list before it freezes, also added a counter at the top of the screen to also help keep track.

I wrote a program to help a buddy of mine who plays in the NFL to help him get votes for the pro bowl, the bot also freezes up randomly after so long.

I wrote a program to check IPs to see which IPs are actually usable with the website I need them for and that bot randomly freezes, Ubot support originally told me it was the proxies, not believing them I bought a 20 pack of proxies to test out, and proved them wrong, they also adknowledged that I was correct about the issue.

Every time the program crashes I literly need to use task manager to get out of them.

Ubot is looking into the issues and claims they will fix it, but in the meantime the main reason i purchased ubot was to write a program that votes on a facebook contest for me with a very large prize, and because of the issues at the end of the day I am low man left in the competition and will be eliminated. Very upsetting....

As far as making bots and selling them, as much as Id like to give that a shot, knowing the way the bots all crash, how do I fill a clients needs?

bought the developer version a year ago, IMO it's good and reliable and easy to use for doing very simple stuff only.

if you need to make use of proxies, get something else.

they've recently come out with v4 which has many improved features from 3.5, however v4 should really be in beta, as it is very buggy. there are also quite a few known problems which have been posted about on their forums for a long time, which are not being fixed.

my perception is that they are trying to turn it into a "swiss army knife" and pack it with any feature that might make for a good selling point, but they are neglecting to fix some very important things which are in desperate need of repair. since their emphasis seems to be on rolling out new feaatures, I don't expect the problems to get fixed anytime soon if ever.

Honestly much depends on what you want to do with your bots AFTER creating them... It's much more a matter of use cases than features of these different products at "macro" time.

If you plan on redistributing/selling you NEED a product that can compile an exe. So AutoIT or uBot are BETTER options. Yeah you could sell templates (there's market places for each framework), but the margin of profit is definitely not the same.

I played with almost all of the automation frameworks and, honestly, if you don't consider redistributing your bots you'll be able to do the same things you do commercial products even with Selenium or iMacros for FREE.

And let's face it, as soon as you learn a few lines of code, there's no automated tool that can compare to that. Also if you are into coding, I'd highly recommend having a look at WatiN (.net) and WatiR (ruby) to have an edge on the little toys sold around.

If you're up for one of these toys, I'd pick the one with the least learning curve in order to start profiting as fast as you can. But, hey, that's just me ;)

Are you saying that WatiN is a programming language?

Also ive heard people say that if you learn PHP you can do anything with it that you can do with Zeno or Ubot, is this true? If so will it take 500 lines of code to do it, or is it fairly easy also once you learn PHP?

I feel like ive gotten over the learning curve of Ubot pretty well, just to realize with all the crashing its practually useless

I agree with Imhotep. UBot has some limitations, I don't run into the crashing and freezing that you guys are talking about... Even with loops in loops in threads in anything else.

The reason I go with them is that Zenno guys seem like dicks, you'll never be able to compile an EXE, so you'll never be able to share your creation with anybody who's not a Zenno owner. You'll never be able to make a little custom bot for $100+ for somebody (I've almost recouped the cost in less than a month and a few hours work.) You'll never be able to sell your bot, unless it's for $10 to people who own Zenno.

That's retarded. Telling me who I can and can't share my stuff with, so I use UBot and I've shared a few things here on BHW, made money with custom bots and have some I plan on selling shortly. Also, if you're creative with it's functions, you can do a lot more than would appear when you don't have a very solid understanding of it.

(For example, $page scrape is a bit limited... Text on left, text on right. However, finding regular expressions in the document text (same thing, but using RegEx instead) is very powerful.)

Truth is, I've been wanting to learn to program for years, but I can't. It's fucking boring and I hate doing it. I always wanted an easy WYSIWYG programming language, and UBot is just that... Hell, I can't even write the UBot code, and I still come up with some wicked tools.

It's a program for making programs... It's for automation.

Say you have to sign up for 100 Yahoo accounts. You can sit there and do it yourself, or build a program to do it for you... Using Zennoposter/UBot.

If you arnt running into the issues consider yourself very lucky. I talk to at least 5 people who use Ubot and they all have been seeing the same issues, Ubot even admits there is an issue, which they say is with their browser, and they are trying to fix it but yet to have come up with a fix.

I also wanted to note that although Ubot is only $250, $200 if you find a coupon, you only get 3 months of updates, after that you must pay $30 a month for updates

Nope, WatiN is a "helper tool" not a language that will speed up writing your automation code in .net This code will then need to be compiled with a REAL programming toolchain like Visual Studio. The advantage of having .net code (or whatever complete language) is that you can have all the control that such a language allows you to have. That's way broader than anything you'll get with what I called "toys" in my previous post.

In other words while imacros, zenno, ubot or autoit are half-way proprietary scripting tools created by their respective vendors to achieve specific automation tasks if you decide to adopt a more complete solution like WatiN you'll be able to end up with .net code to include in any kind of multi-purpose app. You won't certainly be limited by what the aforementioned tools do. And EACH of those scripting tools have super limitations, no matter what some of the zealots will try to tell ya ;)

I'm in no position to tell you how steeper the curve of learning .net is compared to ubot or zenno because I've been coding forever and any assessment I can make would be biased, but it's up to you to decide what you'll invest your time on, if it's a better use of your time thinking short-term or long-term. :)

About php. Theoretically most of the things you can do WITHOUT a complete browser interface (like php) are the same you'd achieve with other testing tools that include a full-fledged browser component, but in reality most of the time it ends up being a huge time waster. On one side with php you have access to the DOM that's really cute, if you hadn't it wouldn't be that far off from using straight bash+curl... On the downside you'll often find that tedious thingy implemented with js that you'll have to reverse to make it work on an automation solution socket-based that doesn't come with javascript support.

This operation will take time to figure out compared to what you can do in the same time-frame with a more visual tool that also supports a full web component. There are multiple third party tools (some impressive) to fill this gap, but since you have started with ubot, it shouldn't take too long to switch to .net imo.

it's only $5 per month.

although charging you just to fix something which does not work as advertised doesn't sit well with me.

I've been trying to find a specific price for updates (because I keep seeing different answers to this), but only found "for as low as $29" monthly for updates: http://ubotstudio.com/faq.aspx

Try visiting the forum of Ubot & Zenno to find what are the problems users are encountering. From there you can decide what software are having major issues.

I have tried the 14-day trial of Ubot and was impressed by the noob friendly interface of the program and having an active community. However, Ubot freezes in the program code that I am trying to make. I am not quite sure with the "Professional Edition" it also freezes.

A Ubot forum member is offering "library package" as an add-on to Ubot. And i think he has some solutions to freezing.

I choose Zenno because of the price. I bought the Lite and later on ugraded. $57 is a no brainer if you are serious in automating tasks. Compared to Ubot, ZP's interface is a bit intimidating for those who do not have programming experience, but eventually new users will get a hang of it.

IMHO, Zenno and Ubot are two great software it is just a matter what will you buy first and has the best ROI.

I would have bought Ubot this season if they offered a Christmas discount.

Yes, thats why I said $30, just rounding it off :-p As you can see, 3 months free, that means for 1 years use you are paying $270 just for updates, which means you've paid $500 for this program in just 1 year. $360 every year after that, so if your making bots and have a decent monthly income on it, its not bad I guess, but I just hate knowing that Im paying out that much for software regardless...

oh, my bad... maybe I got a special deal or something due to having bought it so long ago.

Yeah, that's probably the case. A lot of the older customers seem to have gotten the $5 price. Sucks for the newer customers though. $29 is pretty high unless you are making some serious cash from using Ubot/selling .exe's.

ubot is very good one to grab the product
i have own my ubot just upgrade by directory source facebook.com twitter and etc

I have no programming experience at all. My only experience w/ bots was creating a craigslist poster w/ macroexpress years ago before posting got difficult.

I want to creat a simple scraper for sites like yellowbook/merchantcircle to harvest name/address/tel# and export to CSV. If it works, I have a warm market that I could sell it to, but selling a .exe is secondary....I want the bot for my own use.

I'm sure I can come up with many other simple uses for a bot creator.

Would UBOT or Zenno be better for me for the initial scraper solution (considering my lack of programming skill and the simple nature of the bot I want to create).

Any feedback appreciated from experienced users.
