Can a website get pagerank only due to On-Page SEO

I created a .mobi site 2 months ago brand new domain name used a mobile theme, it is autoblog - i created a few backlinks just like i did for other wordpress blogs - but its pagerank now is 2 and others are still there ?

Page rank depends upon many factors .. On page SEO is one of the factor.. So it can help you to get high PR.

The big G seems to give lots of new sites a PR2 for no apparent reason. If you don't do anything with it it'll drop at the next update. I've seen it happen lots of times.

In my situation i see most of the visitors coming to my articles and that article PR is raised to 1 from 0 so now my website is PR1...

Yes, you can. I have seen a PR6 domain with no links, well I don't really know how to check backlink, at least when i try link:domain on google it says no results.

They only show around 1% of the backlinks compared to what is indexed in GWT.

Witch in turn will create (hands free) backlinks to your site because people want to link to sites with good content that generate traffic.

yes, add content people would want to read

i just build new site, home page 2500 word article themed, covers the topic...
just tumblr link. twitter link, youtube link and facebbook link...
indexed and starting to great traffic on many of the keywords i was going after.
just feed the panda what it wants....

why people get so wrapped up in PR, i don't know...PR is dead and doesn't accurately measure what it was originally designed to measure. Start looking at page and domain authority.
