The referral cannot be changed, but as the visitors clicks your link before to reach your site, this is perfectly safe. They are not redirected automatically. The referrer can be hidden though if you prefer

Some of you guys need to understand something about sites like www.track-visits.com. They basically do the same thing as bit.ly and other sites that do url tracking. I understand that but.ly is for url shortening but in your referrer you still see only bit.ly. And bit.ly also gives you statistics about your clicks. So why would Google give you penalty for using a service like bit.ly just for statistics? It goes the same way with track-visits.com. It is a service for company's to track there campaigns and not rely on Google analytics data.
But just like the typlo said, you can ask him to "hide" the referrer and then it will look like direct traffic. <--- that to me looks more suspicious on a site that's getting 100 visits a day, then out of no where is getting 1k+ with no referrer... There is no way in hell that 800+ people out of nowhere have your url in a bookmark..... But that's just me...

Thanks for pointing this out! I didn't even think about that example, but yes you summed it up perfectly. The referrer isn't the issue for Adsense, but the way the traffic is sent.
And yes hiding the referrer isn't the best way to go, but some people feel just more secure that way even if you explain it to them, you can't argue with clients wishes can you
