Who Created Their Own Product?

I primarily am building AdSense monetized sites, and it is sort of a means to an end of me. I want to diversify my income by creating my own product, and surprisingly it has nothing to do with teaching others how to make money online!

I'll be working on my product bit by bit, but I thought it would be helpful to create a thread for those who created their own products and those who aspire to create their own products to share ideas, tips and inspiration.

Can you give a little more information. Is your product something tangible?

I've created a few products for myself to promote (not for affiliates).

Pros:
* You control the sales page and can tweak it for maximum conversions.
* You can make a product that's better than your typical PLR Clickbank shit, and that will thus get less refunds.
* You don't get shaved.
* You're no longer dependent on a shitty affiliate program deciding whether they'll pay you or not.

Cons:
* It's extremely time consuming both building the product and then creating and tweaking the sales page. You still have to get traffic after that.
* It's much harder than you think to build a sales page that converts.
* Legal issues if you play fast and loose with copyright laws to put your product together like I do.
* Users are complete fucking idiots and you'll have to answer their stupid fucking questions after they purchase.
* Sometimes you put a whole bunch of effort into a product and it just flops; sometime the niche you picked just ends up sucking.

I really like the idea of vertically integrating and promoting all your own stuff, but the reality for me has been that there just isn't enough time to do everything, so I have gone back to sending traffic to affiliate programs mainly, even though it has its drawbacks.

Sure, I guess I should have added more details. It is an e-book for a business my mom has had lots of success with. I helped her build her business and I think with the knowledge I acquired and natural talents, I can help others do the same.

In regards to the Sales Page, what things were you tweaking? I've been following Glen Alsop, very popular blogger who's had success with this own products, and he swears that there are only a few things that should be tweaked to perfection on the sales page, namely things like the "purchase button." That seems almost too simple to me.

Autumn, you also talked about time, have you ever considered outsourcing some things. I already have a VA on deck for a certain part of my e-book that I don't want to do the boring research for.

Some people even outsource the entire "creation process" of their products.

My brother in law is on the verge of finishing a product. He is an offline guy working as a contractor for a couple of firms doing a very specific task.

He has an IT background so he created a tool to help himself with his work. We were at my place brainstorming as how to get more biz for him when he accessed the database he was working on and I said to him "Is that yours?" he said "Yes, I am using this to help me do....." I said to him "There's the idea!!"

So you never know what can become your product! Just look around a the things your friends and family are doing to help them with their daily tasks that may or may not already be on the market. I know a teacher in Virginia that cuts out wooden letters and sells them online. She does fairly well - sells a few to boutiques and other places.

I have been creating my first product lately. It is a ebook and a few bonus reports. Plan on launching it as a WSO first, just to see what it does. Then probably move it to click bank.

I have most of the product created, next graphics, then sales page.

After it is all said and done I am looking to find a few people with list to help me promote it for a %50 commission.

That is the plan anyways. Never have done it before but we shall see how it goes.

I am in pretty much the same boat as the OP I create a lot of adsense sites.

So you never know what can become your product! Just look around a the things your friends and family are doing to help them with their daily tasks that may or may not already be on the market. If your idea is good enough, you can CREATE A NICHE. If you do that my friends, you will be in the $$$$.

That's awesome! Yes it's true, as long as you have something good that solves problems, you have a niche. Are you partnering with him?

I never thought of selling a physical craft online, but I'm not to "crafty" to begin with. Lol

I'd like to hear more about the bold. How do you go about finding lists? Do you connect with other internet marketers who have a list built, is that it? Also, how do you know that their list will buy your product?

I have created my own product and honestly the creation effort is nothing in comparison to the efforts required to market and sell the given product. The real issue is finding the time to do everything while working at a full-time job to feed and house the pesky family. I'm still looking for the magic bullet that will allow me to sell the product effectively.

I believe this is THE best way to comfortably make money online, provided your product is good. I've created a few recordings, dvd and have an e-book in my head

If you are well organized - it's the best thing after sliced bread. You create it once and it keeps on paying! My biggest problem is procrastinating, once I start - it usually gets done quickly.

I like to do everything myself (this way I have full control over everything), but now I learn that sometimes it pays to hire a pro for things like graphics or sales page.

If you know your stuff - you can create a product in no time. I have a recoding I've made about 10 years ago and it still sells, even although I don't advertise it any more.
I know if I had my book ready a year ago - I would have made about $50k no problem in a fairly small niche.

Timing is also extremely important, but I can't put my finger on it, it's still touch and go for me - sometimes it flies, sometimes it goes to hell...

I think all of us here have our own specialized realms of knowledge. And if you've ever done tech support, you'll understand that there are tons of "non technical savvy" people out there who want to find a "magic bullet". That's how the "For Dummies" books made a fortune.

I think you have to look at other successfull e-books, both the books themselves, and their sales pages. See what makes them "stand out" and apply it your own product and sales page.
