What must one do to avoid sandbox?

A friend of mine says that all sites get sandboxed if they send spam emails to get link exchange and if they have too many links in the beginning. Is that true? What other mistakes do you have to avoid not to get sandboxed?

Exactly! I have brought several sites out of the sandbox with original high quality content. Content is king!

The key activator for SandBoxing is Link Velocity & Volume; particularly in the first 6 months of a domain's life.

Too many links, too quickly has a negative effect. CONSISTENCY is the most important thing; avoid huge swings in link building - as this looks man-made.

You may be right, but this is how I see thinks: sometimes when you start in an industry you have no previous experience, what really matters is knowing what you should never do, not what you should do. If you start with the wrong foot, you can be out in seconds.
