Probably an odd question, but something I was thinking about earlier today when a friend of mine was looking to start linking immediately with zero content ( he bought articles off fiverr and was looking to do something ).

So would building links to your site without any content do anything? When you put the content up obviously you would rank for whatever your tareting, but could you potentially start link building even before you have content posted?

well that you can start doing it is no problem but spiders will crawl and find nothing so how is that going to do any good? Always better to have content before links bro.

Sure, just have something up, and a couple sentences.
I ranked top 10 for a competive word with a couple sentences, and even forgot to put the keyword in the title, which shows you how much on page SEO is really worth.

Yeah but when he puts the content up and Google crawls again, he'll have the same results, at least that the way I think of it.

i'm interested in the answer too.

I just bought a domain and want to start writing all the articles and creating content before buying the hosting.

makes sense ?

i have seen a site with just 1 article ranked 4 th for a very competitive niche .....
so i think it is possible...

I am doing the same. Had a 9,000 exact searches a month kewords ranking on first page with just links to the under construction page.

i agree with you.. you can start link building after have some content on your site... :D

i thinks that's much better for your visitor

I think it's good to have some content and maybe a bit of money making right away. It takes only so much time, you can use TBS to get something there really quickly too.

that will work but your site will definitely not show up in SERPs until you put relevant content in... so, it's just a time element thing... your could be wasting some search engine visits that should have already gone to your site...

Links are links and they will help, but they probably won't be valued nearly as much as a link with a decent amount of content around it.

With links without content you need to have them in volume to be able to do any serious amount of damage.

Hey everyone,

For me, I hardly ever put up any content on my site, yet I still rank quite well in the SERPS. Google doesn't really care about how much content you have.

BUT I've found that your site gets 'delayed' in the climb to the #1 spot if you add no content, and your site gets crawled a lot less too. In the long run though, you'll eventually rank #1 with almost no content, but it takes a little longer.

I will not suggest you to build backlinks for your domain if it does not have any content.. It may get some penalty because you are promoting a domain which dont have any information..

I would advise you to have at least one paragraph of content before link building and start slow. If you go to fast before the domain has aged some you will get sandboxed for sure.

LOL! This is a really good question. Someone should probably do a case study on this and report their findings here!

Just yesterday I banked $XXXX from a sale on a charter site that still has the latin on the home page. the whole site is up, but maybe only 10% of the pages have any content other than the latin.

It's got one really powerful ultra on topic PR4 link to it, and a drip fed AMR blast so far.

It's ranking really well, so what was supposed to be a slow burn project has to completed pretty quick.

Actually thats what I'm supposed to be doing right now, instead of talking about it on some forum. But i tend to procrastinate whenever it comes to writing content.

Absolutely, but building links BEFORE content is smart. Links are what make a website rank, building links before content is a good strategy, build out the content later is fine.

That's what I do, build links to projects I know I'll be working on later. It helps jump start the game so that I actually get moved along faster once I build out the site.

If your page delivers exactly what a searcher is looking for then it's fine. I've seen pages ranking #1 with practically no content at all. But it gave the user exactly what the search term was about.
