As I was typing the thread title something else came to mind, which I'll finish with.

Do you think Google could solve a lot of problems if they got rid of page rank? There are a lot of PR home page services, blog commenting services, etc. How big of a dent would it make in all these black hat services if they removed PR? People sell forum links, blog commenting, home page links, blog posts, web2.0 services, etc, all related to PR.

And what came to mind when I was typing the title was, even if Google removes PR, some companies will develop their own ranking system (which a couple have already, always forget the URL of the big one), and I guess it would become the standard...
Maybe that's a good idea to do right now, start your own ranking system, that's fairly accurate, and if google ever does get rid of it, your system would be the go to system.

Yep, like seomoz has their own authority scale which a lot of people now use...

That's the one. I always forget the damn spelling of it lol.

I think what google needs to do is the remove the value placed on homepage link backs.
Everything else is fine IMO.

Seomoz will rule then.

Caring for googles PR for SEO is so outdated, except if you want a page to be indexed faster, but yeah it confuses people and is good to sell links with.

The problem with SEOMOZ is that they only have their own system. They don't have the information that Google possesses so how could they possibly create something equivalent to the Google PageRank?

If some company develops a better ranking system than G, that company will be the new G. It's as simple as that.

Others may be trying, but the reality is that if their ranking methodology was even slightly better in discovering relevancy, they would be in the search business, not in the SEO one.

Good point. Though it could be the closest thing there is.
How do they get their data now? I mean most sites only get 1,000 links, where do they get all their data from?

I love it. Learn to play creatively within the rules and you will always do better than the competitors.

Hey,

Google will 'shoot the light' for some people if they terminate PR completely.

As for mozRank, I've found it to be similar to PR, but very different in one aspect:

A PR 3 site that only has 3 links pointing to it, has a mozRank of say about 3. And another PR 3 site that has thousands of links pointing to it has say a mozRank of about 5. I'm not sure how to conclude on this, but that is my observation.

Google should find a better way of detecting if backlinks are manufactured or not. If they'll be able to do this, then a lot of SEO folks will have their brains explode.

Yeah, it would create a ton of confusion and certainly destroyed some of link buying/selling business. But isn't SEO MOZ rank also partially calculated on G's PR?
