A lot of you guys know me. Some of you know of me outside of the Internet and others I?ve conversed with for years without ever really knowing who you are. Before I go into ?The Truth?, I really want to lay out who I am and how I got to where I am now. This is all important considering a lot of you really don?t know how easy it is to get ahead in Internet Marketing and this ?rant? may help some people put things into perspective.
I?m 33 years old and a father of two kids here in Florida. One child is an autistic 8 year old boy and a product of my girlfriend?s first marriage. My other child is a girl and she turned 3 in April of this year. I live in a quiet neighborhood in a modest home and own a few cars. I?ve got some of the latest and greatest gadgets and really live my life in comfort for the most part. Most of the time I?m not left wanting for anything, but it wasn't always like this.
Before I started Internet Marketing, I took jobs as a tow truck driver, repo man and pest control. Yes, pest control, lol. I went to school after moving from NJ to FL to get into the IT field. I paid for overpriced IT courses at a nearby ?school? and completed my MCSE training along with a few other various related courses. Little did I know that a huge local company was going to close its doors and flood the market with IT professionals desperate for any IT related job. They had the experience and I had nothing but I certificate of completion from my school. Somehow I did manage to find a job at a local dialup ISP as their network administrator / ?IT Guy?. This lasted until the owner of the company died and I was out of a job again.
Very soon after, I found a job working for a software developer. All I had to do was software phone support and build computers. This was hardly what I expected to be doing after shelling out all that money for school, but it was a job. To make a long story short, I still work for that software developer and it?s been close to seven years now. Only difference is, I?m no longer an employee, he?s my client.
Like many of you, I started my marketing career making blogs/sites and sticking Adsense on them back in 07. I installed the browser plugin that allowed me to see my earnings in ?real time? and was excited on the days I made over $1.00 from my traffic. I spent countless hours on several forums and read more than I had ever cared to about Internet Marketing. Most of it was pure junk and a complete waste of my time and effort, but I didn?t know any better. This of course put a huge strain on my relationship with all the hours spent with little return. Heck, I never even got my first Adsense check because I read some eBook about ?Getting Adsense Safe Traffic? and ended up getting my account banned. I was a total noob and had absolutely no direction.
As I continued to work with the software developer, we had a good amount of daily downtime. I used this time to research my ass off online and try to figure out a way to supplement my income; which at that point really wasn?t that bad.
I bought more domains, made more sites and tried dozens of methods. Some worked for a short time and others failed to launch. It was then that I reached out and started looking someone to point me in the right direction. At the very least, give me access to information outside the mainstream eBook shit. I needed a way in!
This is was the break I needed... Blackhatworld was starting an IRC (Internet Relay Chat) network. I was on IRC way back when warez and such was popular and offered to host the IRCD for the forum. It?s then that I met HaRRo and Havok. Both of them had their hands in several projects and I was sitting in the front seat watching them work their magic. Finally, I had a way to ask questions and become involved. After reading, asking questions and trying things on my own, my little $1/day projects turned into $xx/days. It was a bit scary at first since CS?ing and such was the big thing back then, but I read and tested and read some more until I got it down. I then brought in a few people I met and they helped me scale it up. We all made money, life was good.
With being as active as I was on BHW?s IRC network, HaRRo and Havok decided to make me a moderator. I would have only have got the position if I were involved and present. I owe a lot to both of them. They vouched for me during a time when almost no one knew who I was on BHW.
I moved quickly up the BHW ?ranks? and ultimately became what I am now. (Despite what people might tell you, we don?t get paid. Being an admin here is not a $100k/year job). In fact, it takes time from other projects that actually do make me money. I do it for the love I have for the community that helped get me this far and the people I?ve met along the way.
I did a good amount of JV?s, started a CPA network, made connections in the industry and now do very well for myself. I owe most of it to HaRRo, Havok, BleemZ and my own initiative.
If I were to give anyone here advice, it?s to become as active as you can on the forum and off. By ?off?, I mean IRC or anywhere you can shoot ideas back and forth and observe others doing the same. Forums are great, but the real ?secrets? are shared in real time and with real people. I couldn?t tell you how many times someone would get a little drunk and spout off an idea that several people spun into a method and made money with, lol. There?s really no beating it.
If you want success in this industry, GET INVOLVED!
Get on IRC, stay active on the forum, open your mind and get others involved in your projects no matter how big or small they are. Ask questions of others and share the wealth you inherit, it will come back to you.
