you can only track your laptop to a specific location if it actually has gps hardware in it. otherwise, the most you can get through software alone is the IP and maybe a video feed from the camera. IP can get you the general area, and the camera can get you a face and then you might be able to deduce where it is based on the surrounding scenery.

and that's only if they actually turn it on.. as opposed to just removing the battery and hard drive immediately.

Nope, I had not gps or tracking software on the laptop, and I have not got around to adding it to the tab. . . . I just added a tracking program to my phone last week.

What really gets me is they took a 24in screen from my computer and left the other one alone. I have two 24in screen side by side, they also left my computer. . . This thing is a monster!

Hell the side was open from me adding more ram, so you can see the video card, 4 sticks of ran, 6 hard drives and 3 dvd drives. . .

1st it drives me nuts working on one screen again 2nd why only take one screen?

Your probably lucky that the side was open on your PC. A thief don't wanna steal something that don't work and thought your shit was broke.

They probably took the monitor cause they figured it was brand new.... (The side of your PC is open and you have 2 monitors.) The logical conclusion is that your pc is broke and you don't know if its in the pc or monitor. So you bought a new monitor.

They took the newest looking monitor or the one that was furthest away from your PC. Assuming it was the best bet to be the working one.

I just hope that you have the serial numbers of your stolen property written down so that maybe you can help catch these thieves.

I worked in a nonstop store before 2 years. One night, around 4.00, several people with masks attack the store and hit me in the head with crowbar. I still remember my blood everywhere in and out the damn store.

When i come back from the hospital few days later, i delete all my game accaunts (i am ex addicted mmorpg player) and i start reading about IM. The hit in my head change my life, now i have a wife, 6 months old babyboy and not bad income, thanks to BHW. And the most important, i realize how beautiful is the life, and the fact that we have to enjoy every moment, every day.

Yea, its not good to lose all your stuffs, but you are alive and you can buy them back anytime. Sometimes the opportunities are hiding behind the problems.

Now, you will be much more motivated for hard work. No more laziness, you have to buy new xbox

How much is it worth to you to keep it safe?

An alarm system can be installed and set up for less than a few hundred dollars, with a small monthly fee amounting to the price of 1 night of dinner out. Also consider a safety deposit box if you are insured, but have many important documents which need to be kept safe.

Don't just consider burglary. Fires and flooding are also a concern when it comes to protecting your assets.

1) Alarm System
2) Have your smoke alarms regularly checked
3) Keep a fire extinguisher filled near your bed
4) Large Heavy fire-proof safe
5) Safety deposit boxes

These are thing which you seriously need to look into if you insist on having valuable goods in your home, or if you have anything worth protecting. Don't just consider that insurance will cover the cost of your stolen computer. What about the loss of private data you keep stored? Your reputation when your identity gets stolen.

Also consider becoming a minimalist. Downsize everything. If you can't afford to protect your items, maybe you can't really afford your items. I hope everyone learns from this guys situation, as I am sure he shared it as a lesson to all of us.

How I wish I would of just spent a little extra money to make sure I was protected, how I wish I used the lock-box for some information.

It would of taken 30 mins to site down with my laptop and tablet to install some software that could of got it back.

A $300 alarm could of saved my over $8000 in loss. .
Yeah. . . when you look at all my stuff and my girls stuff we will have to come up with well over $8000 to get it back and that number does not count the rings from her great grandma or the necklace I got her for Christmas. .

There are a lot of things we will never be able to buy back.

EVERYONE should site back and make sure your stuff is safe make sure there is a way to track your stuff and take down the serial numbers of EVERYTHING!!!!
