Black hat SEO is what you do when you realize all your 10 years of white hat SEO doesn't out rank your competitors
If only some one had told me this 10 yrs ago.
Black Hat seo is what you do when you realize that Google or any other organization on the internet has no business desiding what is morally or ethicly "right" in terms of website/business promotion.
Then you start doing what works to keep food on you and your families table and gas in your truck because that is what is morally right in the real world.
Some "black hat" actions might include:
Never mind faster to list what is not considered black hat:
1. The if you build it and it is good they will come system never actually doing anything of any kind to promote your site.
2. 1 + link bait system (Maybe)
3. Paid promotion ie PPC, Facebook ads, any other paid ad
4. No I think that about covers it.
Needless to say I don't think any action or system that puts food in my kids mouths and does so with out breaking any laws is black hat but google diagrees.

That may be customarily, but not necessarily so.
It really means manipulating search engine ranking without regard to the artificial rules of search directories. Since search directories do not own the internet, they have no right to dictate to individuals how they should use it. If companies like Google, Yahoo, and Bing don't like it, they are free to vacate their internet business positions.
But because Google is so big, the uniformed mistakenly think that Google is the internet, a total mis-conception. The internet was around before Google, and it will be here long after it's gone.
What blackhatters do is unethical only if you believe Google and other search engines have the right to make laws governing the internet, which they do not, and never will have.

Yeah, I'd interpret that to mean, do your BH work intelligently and
only 2 easy peasy hours will smack down any 9-5 J.O.B.
I'd subscribe to the definition of BH being using methods to "game" the
SEs, legally, just not doing what those pompous Btchs want you to do.
