Having a blog and having a high bounce rate indicates a problem. I don't care what Google says and what it wants people to think. I have tested and tested and tested. I know for a fact that a high bounce rate on a blog page will affect its ability to rank in Google.
Do you have a blog? Have you linked internal pages together? Do you have a navigation menu on the blog?
If you have those things on a blog and someone views one page but then leaves your site would you be worried? After all, you have internal links and a menu for them to easily go to other pages on your site. Why would they not view other pages?
Maybe there is something wrong with the blog?
After all, if it was normal for one person to visit one page/post on a blog and then leave we would not bother with a menu that offers them an easy way of viewing our other pages.
Think about it. Google isn't stupid, it just wants everyone else to be stupid and swallow what it says. Don't trust what Google tells you. If that was the case we would be able to reverse engineer the entire Google algo simply by reading everything that Google puts out about what it's looking for when ranking a site.
And it doesn't just come down to pleasing Google. A high bounce rate is bad for your bottom line. Every visitor that comes to your site is valuable. If they come, view one post/page, and then leave it will affect your bottom line - pure and simple.
A high bounce rate indicates a problem for YOU. People are arriving at your site, viewing a single post/page and then leaving. Common sense should tell you that this is not good for your business. So stuff what Google tells you, common sense (your ability to think) should tell you a high bounce rate is NOT good news.
If you owned a shop and a high percentage of customers came in, looked at one item on your shelf and then left, would you think that is NOT an indication of something being wrong with your shop?
You would start to look at your stock (your content)
You would start to look at your display (site design)
You would start to look at the way the shop is laid out (your sites menu and internal linking)
Now please tell me that a high bounce rate is nothing to worry about because Google said so.
