How much is a PR4 domain worth?

I found a domain on sale and its currently going for close to $200, though it may go for much more in the next few days. The name is [niche]central.com and it was previously owned by a national association for the niche (i checked the cache).

Its also a flexible topic that could cover more than one niche.

I'm thinking i should buy it, what do you guys think?

What's it worth to you?

I always want to know how much I think I can make out of a domain. If you're just buying it for the sake of it, then it's not worth $2. If you have a good plan for it, know how to make money out of it, then you might want to pay $20,000.

The PR of 4 doesn't have too much value (~$50) so unless the domain is relevant to you or your projects, then $200 isn't cheap for a generic PR4 domain (unless it is old, has DMOZ or similar...).
 
It does have those attributes. I can see it applying to multiple niches and working as an authority site, but honestly any domain can pull that off. My question was really referring to the value of a PR of 4, which you say is about $50 give or take.

No its not really particular to a project I have in mind, i stumbled upon it while looking for something in the real estate niche. I guess if it was than it would have been worth this price.
 
PR4 only matters for me if your are going to be selling backlinks. If you are going to do this then 50-75$ sound like a reasonable amount.
 
If your just looking at the fact that it's a PR 4 then typically you can buy them for $50-$100. However, if it has strong backlinks, or a great name, or a good ranking it can be worth more.

I follow this pricing guide when I'm buying domains (for the sole purpose of buying a PR domain nothing else special about them)

PR 3 $25-50
PR 4 $50-100
PR 5 $100-250
PR 6 $300-1000
PR 7 $2500-10000
 
How many backlinks has it got to it? I rarely buy a pr 4 unless it has 500+ (unique domain) backlinks

The name is pretty rad, though I haven't checked backlinks yet.

Just put the domain into chrome seo extension. gives you all the info you need to make a decision. But if you like the name then go for it. Half of SEO is confidence. If you like a name it gives you plenty of confidence to get the job done.

Taktical - if you do decide to buy it make sure the PR is real and that it has at least one PR 4 or higher backlink - and that the link is still on the page.

To check the PR and make sure it's real in Google use the info operator - just to be safe I always do this:

In Google I type:

info:domainname.com
info:www.domainname.com

I then go to each of those urls and make sure they are not forwarded to another url.

If you type info:domainname.com and the site that comes up is notdomainname.com then your dealing with a domain that is faking it's pagerank.

I've seen some websites that also check this but they are not always 100% accurate so check by hand just to be sure.

what is it worth to you?
Do you think you can make good profit out of it?
Is it worth doing the work you will do?
 
Does it have any traffic? Also check it out how it became PR4. How old is it. I got and autoblog (100% duplicate content) almost 2 years old which is pr5 and got almost no traffic to it. Do you think it is worth 200$ :). Page Rank alone is worth 0$. Google could remove that pagerank overnight.

It got the pagerank by being used for years by a national organization for drug rehab. so i think it has legit authority.

It depends 100% on the quality of backlinks going to the domain. If you are buying it for purely linkbuilding purposes then take a look at opensiteexplorer for the quality of the backlinks pointing to it.

Extremely high quality PR4's can go for upwards of $500, where as a shitty PR5 can go for $150. Sophisticated buyers are bidding on the authority of a domain, not the PR alone.
