Ranking in Reddit

I've submitted numerous content to Reddit before, only to find that nothing has happened.

Right now, I'm not even talking about promoting my site or anything, I'm just talking about funny pictures/story which are all original.

None of them ever take off, and I'm confused because my stuff hasn't been worthy of the very first page (yet at least) but it hasn't even gotten 1 or more votes either way.

There must be some trick to get content to show up well in Reddit?

You can buy votes on Fiverr and other services in other sites to try and make your content look viral, but unless it IS viral and appropriate to the Reddit crowd it won't make it. Consider posting in the proper subReddit if you haven't done already and also note that Reddit has an anti-spam system of automatic downvoting on ALL new posts that reach 25 or so upvotes in case someone is trying to game it!

I;ve done the same in the past and been frustrated by the lack of support on there. It seems as if you have to have a highly influential account for anything to move and people who dont even check the piece they promote will just do so because they like the user. Its super clicky.

If anyone has any tips on dealing with this, I'd lvoe to hear them

See, sometimes, it seems like Reddit people are crazy. This happens to me as well. I create 2 comic strips with the same theme, but both receive diametric receptions. Why? I think that's because of the title I use for the post.

By the time a Fiverr gig comes through, it probably won't have a chance to hit the first page... all first pages seem to be under 24 hours...

Maybe try posting something with a picture of a cat or something - they seem to really eat that stuff up. And make sure to use imgur to host your pics so that the users who are using the Reddit Enhancement Suite will be able to see part of the pic. I know quite a few people who use the RES and they will not even click on a post if there's not a pic showing - even in subreddits other than r/pics

I've got quite a few to the front page.. You really have to post something that's genuinely interesting, funny, shocking etc. or else it won't work.

You would also have to have a bunch of accounts set up but I don't see why that wouldn't work. I just tried to upvote something on there and it said I had to be signed in to do so.

EDIT: Swiss beat me to it lol. If that tool works it might be the perfect tool for someone looking to use reddit to promote stuff.

I occasionally post content from my clients to reddit to give their sites some nice traffic bumps.

Personally for my niche reddit traffic BLOWS. It doesn't convert at all, and is pretty much a waste of bandwidth.

But during our analytics meetings I always notice my boss's eye's glaze over and hear him mumbling under his breath "traffic...moar....moar traffic please" as I point out the reddit spike.

I don't shoot for the first page at all - I subreddit the crap out of my post. The smaller the subreddit the longer you're site is going to stay on there - granted less visitors, but they'll still be coming to your site weeks after the content has been posted.

Yeah my game is all funny titles and using subreddits.

EDIT: To give you an idea of the traffic I get monthly from reddit -

music niche - 6000+ uniques
law niche - 2000+ uniques

I don't know about any secret methods Reddit uses to make one account that made it to the front page more powerful in terms of chances of future posts hitting the front page, but I do know of a few accounts that have developed a loyal following of fans that will upvote anything by them no matter how crappy the post.

First of all, the time 7:46:43 am on December 8th 2005 is a constant used to determine the relative age of a submission. (It is likely the time the site launched but I have not been able to confirm this) The time the story was submitted minus the constant date is ts. ts works as the force that pulls the stories down the frontpage. y represents the relationship of up votes to down votes.

45000 is the amount of seconds in 12.5 hours. This constant is used in combination with yt s to "water down" votes as they are made farther and farther from the time the article was submitted.

That was as of 2008. In 3 years, I think they might have changed their algos.

It has a lot to do with the time of submission and even more to do with the title. If they don't feel compelled to click through the photo because of the title, you won't make it that far. I've had very few submissions, about half of those got nearly 1k points each.

Which ones you ask? The ones with the most compelling, thought-provoking and/or clever titles. Hope that helps

Yeah, got it for free from the developer.. Works but it's not perfect. Created a few dozen accts. until now, so I'll try it later again.
