I keep seeing threads and ebooks about raising PR rank

I thought PR wasnt really that important in getting a site ranked, am I wrong? and do any of the methods to raise PR actually work

My main site is around 6months old and pr0

in order to raise PR you need high PR backlinks, hen you create high pr backlinks you get good rankings and a rise in PR as a gift... so yes its important, indirectly..... moreover the domain's monetory value also increases

Does PR matter if you want to rank your website? No.....

Focus on your rankings and only that, PR is important if you want to help gauge "trust" of another domain for backlinks but in terms of rankings don't worry about it.

Would it matter if you were a PR0 and ranked first over PR3's and PR4's? No....

It is possible, while not a PR8 vs PR0 it is entirely possible since the toolbar isn't updated regularly.

I had one website that is ranked at the top of Google with a PR0 for close to 8 months until the latest PR update was rolled out. Even now it doesn't have as high PR as my competitors and I'm still at the top.

I think pr does not matter if you are trying to out rank sites from pr 1 - 4. however, a pr 5+ site will be harder to beat unless your site also has good pr.

whats the best way to get high pr backlinks?

Raw PR is like a supped up race engine. Put it in a rusted out gremlin and it won't go very far. It's just 1 element of what makes a website great, 1 of the 200 factors Google likes to reference. Go for quality backlinks, related backlinks, great on-site content, etc. and PR on top of all that will get you pretty far.

On the other hand, throw a ton of unrelated PR at a one page website with a spammy backlink portfolio, no other signs of trust ... and you're lucky if it'll rank for anything even if its PR6.

Yes, PR really matter how can your raise your PR of your website if you don't know your own PR. How can you create backlink on high PR if you don't know the PR of the website. Getting rank is not easy you should be patience and consistent. Google only update every 3months.

As the other guy said, PR is important, but indirectly. The more high PR links you get, the more "juice" you get and so your rankings increase.

I think you are making a little mistake. Of course PR is important to get indexed in google but you need link juice from high PR sites to your site.

I just checked a page rank of top 10 sites for one particular, quite competitive keyword in Goooogle.com, where I am number 1 with inner page of my site.

The page ranks of the actual sites of the competitors, going from number 2 to number 10.: 3,4,3,3,5,6,2,3,4. I am sitting on number 1 position with PR 0. Do you still think now that PR matter s anyway?

This would be my take on it and what I will work towards.
