I laughed a little when I ran across this site.

Check out the content of the site, it's just random gibberish with do-follow links in it. I wonder if the guy is selling the links or if they are all his.

Code:
http://hemelwacht.net/

it's one piece to a high pr link network. Whats so funny about it?

Looks like a link farm to me, no matter what the PR of the domain is it wouldn't be worth the effort if I were to submit my sites' links to that, I have gotten extra careful after the Big Panda update.

I think the most hilarious thing is that people still think this crap works.
I have a d0follow PR5 list (that has actual content) that's well over 1000 domains strong at this point all with <50 OBLs

I think it's hilarious that you think it wouldn't work. Please explain to me why it wouldn't? I'm ranking #4 on a 150k exact search per month term.

I've seen a ton of sites employing this tactic with domains they own, or buying links in such domains.
It lasts at most 1 mth, before google slams them down hard.

I have enough experience I'm willing to wager that this kinda thing is both a waste of time, and an expensive misadventure.

Show me an example to prove otherwise and I'll consider it.

This behavior is "viagra" niche material... as that's most often where I see it.

I've done the PR filtering thing on a few sites... it helps, but no more than building ANY site helps.

I'd rather have a PR7 backlink from my list of blogs that autoapprove and are d0follow anyday... and this requires no monthly fee or domain price, or backlinking or building up of the site.
If your network is FANTASTIC then sure... but it'd take years to build such a thing... and a hell of a lot of investment and even more $ in the way of time.
You would be a lot better off creating a virus that drops links into wordpress blogs.
Also the whole unique IP thing for each domain (if you believe in the google valuing this thing... which is somewhat suspect I admit) You're talking $500-1000/mth just to maintain the damn network.

You COULD sell blogposts/rolls to pay for this... but it all sounds just so blah to me.
How much is an autoblog worth? Few hundred dollars each? x 500... there's a lot better ways to spend money.
From my experience people who do this use it to MAKE money (sell the links)... that is legitimate. But to help a site? not legitimate.

I have a competitor that is above me, and #1 for a ton of keywords, and has been doing crap like that for years on end, probably making 7 figures I'm sure. Google didn't touch them yet, so I said fuck it I'm gonna do it.
I've also created my own network of about 40 sites right now, but I haven't linked them yet, and only gonna have about 10OBL rather than 100. I find cheap hosting at $1-$2 per month, so I'm looking at about $80 per month.

Most networks are small, so I hope Google don't notice it. Niche isn't a huge huge niche, so hopefully it slips under the radar.

This is fine, but blog networks like the ones on viagra are thousands strong.

You're probably right on his $$$ number. From experience I've found that doing rough calculations (say your own facebook like/sale ratio and another site's total facebook likes) is actually an underestimation of total profit margin generally... still, just go smaller and heavier on the filtering and you should be fine.
It's a great way to bypass spam filters that block your main site though!
Let me know how it goes, I'm always interested in new ideas (don't take the above post like I know it all, I definitely do not)

I'm wondering what you do for hosting? I have a bunch of random domains that I have all hosted on my reseller account. I've thought about doing the farm thing too but when it came to the hosting that was my hold up. I've looking at SEOHosting but that price is much higher then you stated. Do you care about different websites being hosted on the same IP as your as long as each of your sites is on a different one?
