Google Places Ranking

Does anyone here know how to push Google Places listings at the top of page 1 of Google. It seems the algorithm favors more reviews, pictures, videos, and listings elsewhere on other sites...

Any more automated/ BH ways that actually work from actual experience?

Map submissions really work if you want to rank in the places section. Just submit to a large number of sites that promote the map listing and you will be good to go.

Question..Im doing SEO for a local client and Im targeting about 15 different keywords. Is google places BETTER to rank then the keyword itself? It seems like if your a company then its easy to get to Google palces BUT does it help to be in the "places" vs trying to get directly to your website?

Not to sure if I want the googel palces or my clients website at the top

I would check the KW results page for what type of places listing you're dealing with; whether is be a blended or pure listing or none at all. Basically from what I can tell is that blended listings seem to factor in authority of the site the page is merged to whereas the pure listing seems more based on the traditional ranking scheme.
