Am I doing it wrong?

I'm running one site right now, with the intention of becoming an authority site. Instead of going the micro niche route and buying a domain that was full of KW, etc. I purchased a domain which is related to the KWs and content I'm targeting, but some of the stuff I've read said to focus on building a 'brand' vice just going after certain keywords. So I've got a domain going, Wordpress install, ALL of my content is 100 percent original. I use catchy, whitty, but KW related h1 article titles, I properly tag my articles. My blog categories are KW rich. I use meta descriptions of the images in my blog articles. I'm monetizing using adsense, with some commission junction offers which are highly relevant to my content. My blog is registered and claimed on technorati, alexa, etc. I have a facebook fan page, a few hundred twitter followers, all of which are highly targeted for my content. But alas, I have almost no traffic.

All in all, I get like 20-30 views a day. I know with adsense, more traffic is more income, same with affiliate marketing, but wth am I doing wrong? Google, yahoo, bing, have all crawled the heck out of my blog, but I'm obviously doing something wrong here. I have very few backlinks, which I think may be the cause of not appearing high in the Google searches, as my KWs are chock full actual manufacturers and stuff, but what I'm going for is related to their products from a concerned consumer point of view, vice actually trying to compete with what their selling.

I'm cheap and broke, so I don't have scrape box, but have been using a combonation of various free alternatives to scrape other blogs which are similar to mine, and throw out some high quality comments with anchor text linking to my blog, but googling for links to my site is not showing anything. I figured my links, IF they are getting approved, or not being crawled, so a look through BHW, linklicious is the solution, alas, linklicious getting attacked right now currently. What do? Any ideas?

Well, I think your problem is not enough focus - you can't focus on hundreds of keywords at once, instead choose a few and concentrate on getting a post optimized for ONE keyword, or even a category designated for one product group. Otherwise it's too scattered.

On the other hand - it takes a while to get your pages indexed after they are crawled, so do some blog and forum posting with a link to your blog and do some pinging, get some rss feeds included on your page - g news works fine.

You need to have some patience! How old is your blog?

Only a few months, tbh. I had a very similar blog on blogspot and was immediatley impressed with the traffic I was getting. Decided to get a domain see if I could go even further, perhaps I was becoming a "big boy" by getting a real domain, traffic dropped off. I've recently started going back through the individual posts and changing some of the h1 stuff and meta tags to try and focus on getting the articles themselves ranked vice the domain itself, hoping that it would come in time. I've used various free SEO checker websites and they all report a good score for my domain, I figured its just a matter of continually turning out content, and it would all take care of itself eventually, but I was concerned I was doing something silly and hurting myself.

you have a niche authority blog which is great, but you still have to rank each keyword - are you tracking your rankings?

Your site and keywords should look like this:

coolwidgets.com <- KW: cool widgets
coolwidgets.com/blue-cool-widgets/ <- KW: blue cool widgets
coolwidgets.com/red-cool-widgets/ <- KW: red cool widgets
coolwidgets.com/tall-cool-widgets/ <- KW: tall cool widgets
coolwidgets.com/short-cool-widgets/ <- KW: short cool widgets

now the trick is to rank each page for it's keyword and to do that, you will:
1. need to track each keyword's rank
2. send backlinks with the correct anchor text to each page (NOT the home page).

so, start with "blue cool widgets"
get the page coolwidgets.com/blue-cool-widgets/ ranked #1 for the term "blue cool widgets"

it's not enough to just rank your site with general backlinks, you are going to have to go after each page (or each category, depending on how your site is setup)

Also - have you checked the traffic for the better keywords in your niche?
Is there a lot of traffic if you were ranked well? or maybe you didn't do your research and got a low traffic niche?

Thanks for the advice agente808. Is there a way to do what your are suggesting in Wordpress? I just been doing the default posting and my pages end up as "?p=123". I can see where that is gonna hurt me, especially if the brand name of my site is not well known yet.

Check out the permalinks page, i believe its in the settings panel. You can change your posts from being numbered to named using "/%postname%/" as a custom structure. Hope this helps

Thanks found it after some digging around. I think that's entirely where I've been going wrong. I was wondering how the blogs I was blasting for backlinks had cool KW optimized urls. I feel silly. Thanks again!

From what you wrote your problem is absolutely obvious. You need to build more backlinks to the inner pages of your blog. And forget about Scrapebox, that is for nothing.

In your case, when you have niche blog, authority site, etc. (What is pretty good business plan), simply focus on manual Web 2.0 building and social bookmarking (manual or automated or outscored). Build some of these links to each and every site of your blog.

You will be impressed with the results, believe me....

Ah, this is great information. I was wondering how the whole separate page backlinks worked. Anyone trying to get into blogging should read this.

This man has the right idea, there is a huge list of web 2.0 sites in a thread on this forum that you can find. Every article that you post on your authority, spin it and post it on some web 2.0s. You'll see traffic eventually.

I Guess you said it yourself.The site has very less back links which means less Link juice and hence low SERP and finally less views.I believe for Adsence it is very important to have your site Listed in among top five for individual search terms search terms.If you are building an authority site then optimize each page for different keywords and try ranking each page for all the selected keywords.A good SEO is always a key to success with Adsence and a good SEO starts with proper keyword research and quality link building.So build as many high PR Links as you can or even link chaining with web 2.0 and try indexing them..I am sure you will rank good and earn good...

Practically wrong, unique content alone is not enough to get decent traffic. In your case, I would be happy to have 20 to 30 uv/day with less to zero backlinks.

Mentally wrong, most people started with almost no money, not only you. So stop self pity and keep on working. I know some people started with no internet connection (use neighbor's wifi) and they ended up making more than $100/day.

Be patient and consistent. Having good, unique content means you have 50% of success. And don't complain you don't have tools. For example, you can get senuke free for 14 days. AMR free from 5 days. Both are awesome tools. And please, don't complain that you don't have money to spend on captcha. It may sound stupid but I used to enter AMR captcha manually.

It's just you haven't worked hard enough.
