Grab yourself a screwdriver, sit down in a chair, place the hard drive in your lap. Now you want to start stabbing the hard drive as fast as you can.

Seriously....buy a new one. Even if you're on a mobile computer- a laptop or netbook. You can get a new hard drive. It may be a little harder t ofind, but you can find one. You're obviously scared that someone is coming after you. You can't wipe a drive with a program, because it can still be recovered after the program has "deleted" it. The files are never truly deleted. Haven't you heard of "data recovery"? There is still an impression or "image" on the drive even after you delete. Even if you drill holes in it, some of the data can still be recovered.

If you can't think of something, here's my two cents: Pay some guy/girl at a funeral home to throw it in a cremation oven. The whole thing will melt and be gone forever.

I've owned a computer business 22 years now. The amount of ignorance about how hard drives work and how to properly clean a hard drive astounds me. No wonder so many people are caught after they think they removed their data. Only a couple answers in this whole thread are correct for cleaning a HD so old data can't be recovered. Believe me there is no mystery of how they work and how to properly clean them. Formats, system restores will all leave traces that are easy to find. Not until you actually over-write every sector on the drive is the data gone. That is what Dban and a ton of other good DOD grade utilities do. System restores and system formats just overwrite a portion of the disk needed for the new files, all the old sectors it doesn't use on restore are sitting there with all the data. If your method doesn't include writing to EVERY sector of the disk several times then you're not removing everything and evidence is still there. If all you do is a system restore then a real computer guy will read your old data like he reads the Sunday paper. If you're not a real computer person quit giving bad advice and get rid of the hard drive, just destroy it with a hammer and go bury it somewhere.

Sorry for the delay in replying but my dork scanner hit a major snag (that's real piece of software and no pun intended).

Yeah Gutmann started that up, but even he said newer drives(like 2000 or some year like that) can not be with the technique he said.

It was then really hyped up by eraser programs to sell their product.

Personally I think its urban myth but hey if you did some that that bad open up the drive, remove the plates destroy multiple ways and install a new one. Why risk it, the government wouldn't tell us they have a way if they do.

get yourseld a copy of cleanHDD, delete what ever you want to disappear and run cleanHDD. It overwrites all free drive space with random data.

It takes some time but your deleted data will never be found again.

if you have a spyware or a virus just download and install "super antispyware" + "malwarebytes" then install the newest updates -> go to safe mode -> scan your pc with those two -> clean it and finally restart your pc -> done..

i was just freaking out about it... I erased all my data. but probably I will destroy the disk but I think I dont need to do that but who knows what my country is capable of....

MY ADVICE IF IT WILL GET YOU JAIL TIME GET RID OF THE LITTLE FUCKER(HARD DRIVE)

And get a new One, erase ALL YOU EMAILS< and CLOSE the Incrminating accounts

It is impossible to delete all on a computer, or you should have some months to do it.

Some bytes are located on the free space of your hard drive and it is really hard to delete them.

My advice is : burn it and buy another one
