Here is something I use:

1 Install Seo Quake
2Type into google: siteD-tcom D-t inurl:blog"post a comment"-"comments closed"-"you must be logged in""your keyword"

On Seo Quake: click sort by page rank.

Instead of d-tcom you can use d-torg d-tgov d-tedu etc.

Thats very good tip. I already put up an alert on the niche I want backlinks. But what about those who don't have a scrapebox or its equivalent softy's ?.

If you don't have scrapebox (like me) you can just post your comment and link on the blog as google gives them to you, this way your only posting about 1-10 blogs per day for your keyword and this looks genuine because it is, it also makes it easier to make your posts, they won't be spammy like they would be if you was going through a list of say 1000 blogs.

Seems good but has got lots of drawbacks that will take an immense amount of your time.

First of all, g never gives you a full list of blogs,

second, in a day you may get 5 alerts from 5 different sites but sometimes it gets all the alerts from the same site.

Third, all those sites are so reluctant to publish your comment and it is not certain that your comment will also be counted as a backlink.

finally, You have to spend lots of time to get those unique URLs from all alerts and it is not an easy job.

So much time consuming.

I think you are right just curious if this would work if you are doing this WH or is it still a waist of time I get maybe one or two messages a day not the same and I use this for my white hat site.

Google Alerts can also used to find out what may have been written about your own sites. Just make a Google Alert using your domain name or url. It's an easy way to be notified when someone make a post or comment about your site.

I dont understand these parameters: siteD-tcom D-t

If I put them on query I get no results. Usually I use site:.com to get that part working, but D-t?

This method is useful if you plan to manually write out comments to get backlinks. Make sure they are not nofollow before wasting your time though.
