Pretty noobie question, but does bookmarking improve serp results or is it more for getting your backlinks indexed?

I'm sure getitng a new backlink from a bookmarking site helps, so should it be part of my arsenal?

If done with other stuff. Alone maybe, depends on a lot of factors. WHy not do it with all other types of backlinks. Bookmarking your site or links is a good way to have google find those links and index them

can you share the bookmark sites with me?

Are you trying to do it manual? I would suggest either outsourcing it to a guy on here, you can find it in services for sale. I think a guy does it for like 5 bucks for 125. Or, I would get Bookmarking demon. Manual is just a waste of time. You would be more productive doing other things :)

I agree with Dan. I used the $5 for 125 bookmarks and definitely saw an increase in the SERPS.

Originaly I hadn't done any social bookmarking, then I did about 30 odd via onlywire and my SEPRS increased a lot.

I had been doing lots of other back linking prior to these, but the day after the bookmarks a i saw a huge jump. So yeah like mentioned already don't rely just on social bookmarks for rankings, but throw them in your mix of other link building techniques.

In my experience yes it can help a lot to rank your site well.

Could people having success with bookmarking comment as to whether this is through bookmarking their money site directly or bookmarking places you've linked, or both?

Thanks!

I bookmarked some projects 3 weeks ago - every website which was social bookmarked dropped, and is still dropping.

I did this because I had great success with one website, which is ranking now on spot 1 after some social bookmarks, but it doesnt work all the time!

Bookmarking does help an awful lot. I have bookmarked my sites and the serp improvement has been huge. I think it depends on the actual bookmarking list that you use. I bookmark my sites to a minimum of 1000 bookmarking sites. If done correctly it can have a huge impact on your sites serp listing.

Thanks

Harry

It is fact that SEO mix will give more good results than simple social bookmarking. Without any doubt it is helpful that you became prominent in search engine eyes and he index you quickly.

Thanks for the replies, I'm going to be giving it a try

direct to money site.

Before the Google Panda update Bookmarking and directory submission were pretty hot stuff and worked well to increase your SERPs. Now they only increase your web prescense and do nothing much to increase the PR of your site either.

Correction, before Panda SB'ing had begun to lose it's ranking authority up until a certain point or quantity. SB'ing was mainly used for indexing and a great first tier of links to your money site or new site.

After awhile, bookmarking lost alot of it's "oomph" and high PR profile links, mass article submission, and blog comments (high page PR, domain PR, and automated) became all the rage, even direct to money site with xrumer for link indexation and 2nd tier.

from my experience, post panda is about high quality link diversity not only in link type but also IP. With this came the resurgence of bookmarking as a very powerful link source when done right (unique content, diverse anchors, unique accounts). Panda is really just back to business as usual. We had a hay day there for awhile with some questionable tactics but we're basically back to 2008ish with better onpage SEO factors IMHO. Other viable signals I'm seeing is the popularity of your backlinks, IE, backlinking your backlinks. Yes, this has been in play for awhile but I'm seeing, from results, as being more powerful than indexation was last year at this time. I think the name of the game is "popularity" from a diverse perspective, bookmarking is a great way for G to gauge popularity of a site, hence the suppsed upcoming rollout of "social signals". Social=popularity from diverse "trusted" sources. Mix that in with high PR directs and you have yourself a panda slayer.

Yeah agreed. I did something similar a few weeks back, after seeing some good results I then did it again with about 200,000 bookmarks and was just as good if not better than some of my results with SB

I still employ social bookmarking given it's relative low cost. I always attempt to diversify anyway, so SB is one of the first things I do when starting a campaign.

Do you guys think it may be industry specific?

I've tried it for a B2B niche and it didn't really have much effect...

Could it carry more weight in a B2C / C2C based site?
