Finding Dead Sites listed on DMOZ

I was toying with this idea earlier and it seems to be working. Ill keep this simple

1. First I went to DMOZ then browsed to a category i was trying to find dead links at.

2. I then entered site:dmoz.org/full URL path as the foot print

3. I then scraped the results that were given to me. After the results came back I removed the duplicate URLS that were returned.

4. Once that was complete I opened the Scrapebox add on called Link Extractor. I then saved the extracted links to a Text file on my computer.

5. After saving that text file I went back to the scrapebox and imported the Extracted links into the Harvester.

6. Once the links were imported I ran the SB addon called Alive Check.

7. Once the checker is complete you can export all of the deadlinks back to scrapebox.

8. Finally Run the scrapebox Addon called Whois Scraper to verify the expired date of the links that Scrapebox reported as dead.


This can find you some Domains Listed in DMOZ which you can purchase!.. this method can also work with other directories Such as Yahoo directory, BOTW . .ETC..

I do not have these tools or the resources to build many new sites right now but I have to imagine this will be an EXTREMELY valuable share for those who can use it.......

Uh, I hope this doesn't kill this method. ;-) I just found a competitor for some keywords I am chasing who I just reverse engineered and he did just this, a few other shady tactics, but he then linked his whole network at his money site which came out of nowhere and is ranking 2 for this keyword. I thought that was a little bold or risky. He's got a nice super blackhat network going of pr5+ expired sites that he snatched up a few months ago. Its actually pretty cool how he did it but he must have invested $5k into his network. Probably making 5 times that a month in link rentals now. The sites have retained their page rank. The question is how long will it last?

My site is Pro.. Over 1000 pages unique content, concept, flash ect (cost over 30,000 to build)

Any ideas?

I've submitted 4 main branded authority sites; and I mean real commercial sites for offline businesses in major sectors, and never had any accepted. You typically have to wait 8-12 months for a response. It's a bit of joke really.

Not true. While many people wouldn't mind fucking around with several steps, I for one wouldn't mind paying for something that does all that with just one click. And I bet most of the smart marketers would do the same. Time is money.

"A bit" of a joke? More like the biggest fucking joke online... They should really just kill the fucking thing, it's outlived its usefulness by about ten years or so.

There are plenty of services (even free) that show domains that are dropped or will be dropped in 24h.
Besides dmoz they show yahoo, pr, alexa rating, backs links etc etc

So there's absolutely no need for implementation of your idea. It's already done and done better.
