Hi guys, I've been testing Google Places for the past few months & trying to get spam listings ranked well, using the keyword in business name. Then I would have a phone number associated with each listing that I could divert to any business. So I would sell the traffic for a monthly price. This was all working great until Google updated not to long ago, now some of the listings I created have been deleted, but some of them are ranking fine. A few of the listings went to un-claimed status & were unable to be re-claimed unless sending a post card, so that sucked.

I've figured out how to get away with it though, if you submit your business to Yellow Pages, Google will scrape the information from their database & create a listing for you. Then you claim the listing & it ranks better because it's from Yellow Pages. I've only tested this in Aus, but I presume it would be similar in most countries. If anyone else knows anyone black hat methods for Google Places, PM me please.

here's a tip. don't use keywords as the title. that is the main problem for you. google scrapped most of those listings that did that.

Right and Google is promoting their Local Adwords for businesses so they've tightened up the screws for Google Places. They bombed a lot of organic successes and now following up with cold calls selling their local places adwords to real businesses. I get a call every single day telling me how they're giving me $100 free to try this adwords model. I told them I use to dominate Google places in my niche without adwords before the last update. They don't want to hear it.

Anyhow that is part of the reason for Google Places change in algo. Sell local Adword subs.
