Hi Guys,

My site (applespot [dot] nl) recently got a massive visits drop coming from Google. I don't know what the problem is and i can't seem to find it. My other sites are having no problems at all and even increasing in traffic.

I have a blog team, all is unique content and written by ourselves. I have no idea why such drop would occur in a site like this..its no autoblog, affiliate spam place or anything like that =/.

Does someone have a idea what might have hapanned? My Webmaster tools isn't showing any message iether.

What's the present rankings?

Is a 50+ drop in rankings?

You probably got a ranking penalty. Google seems to be handing them out like candy lately. Latest Panda update seems to concentrate heavily on duplicate pages and content. Also look in your webmaster account for any crawler errors. If you feel your website is within Google's quality guidelines file a reconsideration and hope and pray they actually don't send you the dreaded canned response. I am sure this is not the answer you are looking for, but Google is a cluster F these days. Anyway you look at it, when you site is pandalized it can be a long road back.

Thanks for your reply,

There are some sites stealing our content and stuff, so might it be possible that they gave the wrong website a penalty? As far as crawl errors go, theres not really much in there that would attract my attention, just some wierd 404's.

I don't have a message or anything about a penalty iether..the rankings are way down..i used to rank first page for 'ipad' but i keep clicking pages and can't even find myself back.

If the sites copying your content get their pages indexed before you do this can be a problem. I would file a reconsideration with Google and explain that you have all unique content, and let them know that the only issue you feel could have caused the issue is other sites copying your website. Give them the URLs of the domains copying your content, and give them as many details as you possibly can.

The only other issue I see is you have some pages that time out. Check your site speed, and if it is slow you may want to work on making the site faster. Google loves fast websites.

I had a pretty similar drop recently, it certainly makes you rage.

It has been a slow road back...but I think it is slowly creeping back up.

May I ask what a 'slow road back' is? Days, weeks, months?

There is no single answer for this. I have read about people getting their rankings back in 2 weeks, 2 months, 6 months, and some times never. A lot of times people will simply start over with a new site.

Have your page response times changed? Are you using an external site to monitor page load times? You may have been penalized if page load times increased. This could be caused by network latency, increase in total page content, or many other factors. Google loves fast sites.

Actually they are improved..sites pretty fast.

Yeah your server may be the problem, like down alot or slow it was my problem.

No it is not, i know what i am doing, its running many other sites without problems and i optimize websites regarding speed for a living..don't worry

Ever consider Labor Day Weekend (US holiday) as the reason?

My sites took a generous hit that weekend - but they are popping back now that the work week is underway.

For the 404 errors, if you're using wordpress you can use a plugin called link juice save, someone else posted that and it redirects all the not found pages back to your site which helps with those errors. Not sure how to do it with a non wordpress site though. But I doubt that's the problem for the massive drop.

I had the same thing happen to me around the same time, I have to admit, I did autoblog it at the start a year ago, but the last 3 months has been unique content. I guess it caught up to me.

yeah they did for every word i ranked well, im like on the 4th or worse page. And its a dutch site, so labour weekend didn't do anything for me.
