I have an aged domain sitting on about page 3 for a 800k with quotes keyword.
Just spotted a brand new wordpress site, which has only had the basic wordpress install..nothing else..sitting above me..with no backlinks.
My site has over 380 backlinks..jesus..
I also had forgotten that using different browsers can give you different search results..
My site looked great in Safari...but page 3 in firefox...why cant more people use %$#@ Safari

No, your serps will be the same in every browser.
The reason its showing higher in safari is because you are either signed into something google related or because of cookies.

Please tell me I am wrong so we can avoid another facepalm moment

SEO is a long term activity. If your competition is getting links, it's completely normal to observe a dance in the SERPs. After a few days, things will settle down again.

I was not signed into any account..but..after I cleaned the cookies in safari..my site now turns up in the same spot as firefox..
Damn..I preferred being deluded and being on page 1 in safari..
Still hate being beaten by a wordpress install..
