.net - then .org
.net seems to be more powerfull than .org - tested on my private network.

In my opinion it doesn't really matter if it's software or organization sites.
Now a days I treat com, net and org the same. I have money sites ranking
on org, net, com and country specific domain.
So, yes. Pick a net or org if not com... they are much easier to rank in Google Universal search...

Cutting it short, .ORG is the next best TLD as per google, while bing values .NET and .ORG almost the same.
However, I have seen .infos and .biz also ranking very low competition keywords with dead or parked .com's.

Domain doesn't matter as far as ranking goes if you have a top level domain
but if you have an .info or something less people will click the website in the search results so get a .net or .org if you want

Problem with Seomoz is that they use Google blog, and Matt Cutts blog to base their data on. I didnt seen for a long time proper, self-tested information from them (like in the old times they used to pull out).
It does, .com EMD will be ruling over others. Then between .org and .net difference is really small, but based on my results over few hundred sites I am working each month on - .net is bit better than .org

I really doubt .com will have any advantage over .org or .net, it doesn't make sense.

Why doesnt that not make sense? if .com is the standard and someone buys it surely tshirts.com should rank above tshirts.org... sure the .org could have some sort of non profit feel to it, but it real life anyone who types in tshirts into google is looking for tshirts to buy not non profits to donate to... if they were looking for a non profit tshirt organization im sure they'd already know the name of it before they searched for it.

You have to take the niche into account as well as your competition. For instance I have an emd that will be competing with wikipedia and some .gov sites. As it is not really a buy keyword, I went with the .org to make it look more legit. If a .org is sitting at #2 and wikipedia at #1, I am more likely to click on #2 because I know wikipedia is only one page on the subject.

You could be right on that aspect, as I see several .NET domains ranking higher than even .COM's. But, interestingly based on that report, google seems to be working its algorithm to reduce the importance for .COM's. And I see it happening with some domains with .NET or .ORG ranking far higher than .COM.
If .com .net .org are gone, I usually find a different keyword that's available if possible.
ie computers.com is taken, try applecomputers.com, then you try to rank for both keywords.
Another tip, which is my own opinion, is try to find a cheap domain in your niche via auction that is aged.
I bought a two word keyword via auction with a dash, ie key-word.com, for $300, which I kinda later regretted because I'm not a big fan of dashes after doing some experimenting. But anyways, I put about 10 pages on this domain, and all are ranking pretty well. Take a look. The one ranking #18 has 30,000 exacts per month which I never even tried to rank for, and the one ranking #33 has 150k exacts per month, which I just recently started to try and rank.
The #1 at 4,400 exacts per month is the key-word.com site.

.org or .net, however some of the highest ranked competitors of mine have .ws (wtf?) I guess its down to content and SEO at the end of the day

Hey guys, I need some suggestion on this, I have recently talk with a friend on skype and he said to if .com is taken to take the keyword-keyword-keyword.com there is also a .org avaliable but it said to buy with the keyword-keyword-keyword.com
and what about for the countrys specific, like local keyword search , would you guys buy the hosting and also the domain so it will be keyword. (country) or keyword.com.(country)

The search on here is shit, doesnt work, it brings up nothing that relates to the keyword your searching for.
i got 3 domains the same .com . net .org just put a holding page on there and the .org is pr3 after 6 months and the .com and .net are pr0 so i dont know why that is, but id say .org is best if no .com
