Investing in Romania

Why are you basically saying you just walk up to the police chief or mayor and give him a bag or briefcase full of money? It doesn't work like that, and it will get you in trouble. What you do is you take them on expensive trips, buy them gifts etc,but get to know them a little first before you start doing that.

And how can people still be saying its bullshit to invest in Romania, when there is tons of people making lots of money with white hat projects there.

In the last 3 years, huge capital has flown in the total reformation of part of the coast line of the city I live in, and property values have now skyrocketed.

Before: Old industrial dump
Now: Trendy social/market area

I guess it helped that the Mayor had suddenly "gotten" lots of property in that specific undervalued area, if you get my drift. ;)

I really do not know why are you so worked up with Romania. Face the truth. It's a shithole, it's a shame it is a shithole, but the fact remains: It's just a shithole.

Yes it is true, it is a marvelous country... geographically speaking. Mountains (three different types of rocks), virgin forests, the delta area in the south east, the seaside. Hell I may even add the historical heritage which is also very beautiful. This particular country gave very much to the Global Community, it is a small country and used to be a very comfortable country...

Until The Paper King Michael sold out to the Russian Communists the greatest Romanian that ever lived (besides Michael the Brave, Stephen the Great, Vlad the Impaler) who was executed immediately. But guess what... nowadays this great Romanian character is BANNED from history books, public appearance etc. by the Romanian authorities. Do you catch my drift?

As a fact, strategies developed by this character during WWII are being taught even nowadays in the American Military Universities
.

Spain had Franco (Romania had Antonescu) running the SAME regime. Look where Spain is today.

NOWADAYS THE FACT still remains. It is a shithole. Legal system is a (pardon my language) fucking mess, corruption is a national sport, government is composed by ex communists who now became the liberators, the democrats.

It is a country where the true VALUE is simple bullshit BUT where stealing, cheating, scamming are indispensable assets.

There are educated, very smart, business-able astonishing good Romanians but most of them already split.

Face the facts. It's a shithole.

I know that it helps, but its not just walking up to the mayor and giving him money if you don't know him. It involves gifts and social engineering. And you don't actually pay for things in your name, that's how you get caught. There was a mayor here that a contractor flew him to golf tournaments, hunting trips, and paid for expensive dinners with expensive wine. But he got caught caused he used his debit card instead of an anonymous prepaid debit card or even better cash.

Can people just stay out of this thread if they do not have any advice on good markets in Romania?

Its not just walking up to the mayor and giving him money if you don't know him.

You don't seem to know how politics work. The officials don't drop from the sky. They have a system supporting them. You approach the middleman, gets you in contact, close the deal, takes his cut. Just like in business. ;)

It involves gifts and social engineering.

If you do not do it the obvious/easy way.

No need to be asked twice, if you get my drift... :beach2:

I forgot to mention that part, but i basically said the same thing you said there. You have to become "friends" with the politician. And it involves meeting other people first.

@Roparadise - don't get me wrong, I apologize if I offended you in any way, but my personal opinion is simple: Western Investors ( small investors ) will lose their money 9 out of 10 times by embarking into this kind of journeys.

I get flammable when I see investing in corrupted countries advices. And by all means Romania is the worst of all.

I'm from Louisiana so "the system" isn't "foreign" to me. If I want to do business here,I have to do the same thing a person has to do in Romania.

wherever you invest you need locals to take care of stuff thats for sure ... if i have 10 millions of my corrupted country and i want to invest in california and i have no person there ima spend 9 millions on overpriced offices , services , "professional lawyers" and etc etc ... and only 1 million would be needed if i have local person on % of the profits or interested to work for career , or whatever ...
same story everywhere :) just pla your cards well with locations + speculative options n each place
outsource + integrate stupid innovations in small developing countries ... use the power to be able to make good bigger innovations in bigger countries and use speculative overpricing there ... then buy lands in developing countries but create services businesses in developed country and then figure out how to do business in china and you set up :D ...

You can't use big companies as examples when trying to suggest it is an investable place....

The tax rate in the UK is 20% yet you find all of the biggest companies in the world doing business here.

Big corporations do business everywhere, they want some of every pie regardless of tax rates.

For people saying that if someone starts a small business in Romania, they will fail, did you know that in the U.S. 60% of new small businesses fail within 3 years?

Yes child porn exists every were but when you see a mother or father
pimping out there 7 year old child like a sales person then NO and NO and NO
that doesn't happen every were. Romania has a HUGE child sex trafficking epidemic and people there should spend more time and money cleaning that mess up over there and then maybe people would start investing there.

A few stories from the United States:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/03/03/national/main1367989.shtml
http://www.break.com/usercontent/2007/4/5/mother-pimps-out-7-year-old-daughter-266366

I could spend days and days just getting them from the u.s. The news likes to spin stories about countries like Romania, because it is easy and everyone is going to think it happens all the time etc.

Parents trafficking there own kids in the USA is very minimal and a very rare
compared to Romania which its like running a retail store. Lining up on the street corner selling there kids.. You can't compare.

I cant post links yet but do a search on youtube or even google for that
matter on parent child sex trafficking in Romania.

Do a search on the USA of parents actually selling there own child
for sex and compare that to Romania.. Huge difference. Like I said it's
like running a FULL retail store over there.

Big difference when a child chooses to engage in child sex trafficking then
forced into it from there parents selling them to people on the street corner like a retail store like Romania. Also lets drop the age level down a bit as well in Romania the average child is around 5-8 years old to were this article that you post is 12-14.. You don't see parents selling there kids on the street corner in the USA in Romania its big business..

BIG DIFFERENCE MAKING A DECISION ON YOUR OWN THEN BEING FORCED INTO IT FROM YOUR OWN PARENTS..

Article from that link you posted.

Sad to see the FBI propagating the Goldilocks number in yet another way to blow stories out of proportion. The FBI uses the same estimates over the years because it doesn't sound too small or too large. While there is human trafficking around the world, we are clouding that with individuals who make willing choices to prostitute themselves for quick cash or for drugs. I worked in the "ghetto" area of my city, and prostitutes would come shop at my workplace on occasion, so I asked them how they became "working women." Many of them chose it as a quick fix. How about for starters, we differentiate between someone who forces a child into the trafficking from people who made the conscientious decision. Do we cry defend drug peddlers by talking about their upbringing?

One last thing.. The total us population is 312,083,057 and the total Romanian population is 21 375 000
however you have more Romanian parent child sex trafficking going on there in the us.. Case closed

Just googled "best places to start business in 2011". http://www.doingbusiness.org/rankings

Romania is number 56....

Even New Zealand made it into the top 5 :D

That list was a total joke,a better list would be 150 countries and the best business to start in each one.For example it would be bad to start a call center in New Zealand, instead of a call center in India. And with computer programs isn't all the hours to do taxes bs?
