Kindle Ebook Publishing Success?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for stories of people on BHW that are successful posting ebooks on the Amazon Kindle Marketplace. Im in the process of outsourcing the writing of ebooks and I'm looking for pointers and tips as the best way to go about things. I've heard that PLR content (even re-rewritten PLRs) are getting slapped down by Amazon. If this is true, then whats the best way to get around this.

Also, for the successful people out there....how many books are you finding that you have to publish in order to get any substantial revenue.

Very disappointed I am at Kindle

I have 5 ebooks and in total they make me past 3 mnths around 8 to 10 dollars a month. However I keep them very low cost under 4 dollars as with Iphone apps games.

Still they have not made me much which I very much hoped they would
 
I just completed 2 ebooks (all original content) and I'm about to upload them to Kindle. I'm excited and afraid of all the things I keep hearing about people putting alot of time into the process and failing.

But I'm not gonna be afraid, I just got to get it done.

@conscious: How long after you uploaded your ebooks did it take for you to start getting sales?

I'm preparing to break into the Kindle market too. Before Amazon started banning the PLR and public domain stuff, it was tempting. But I'm glad I didn't go down that path. It never seemed sustainable.

Instead, I'm planning to start off with three entirely original short e-books/reports. The first is nearly complete. These are subjects I'm somewhat knowledgeable about, the reports will be no more than 10,000 words, so they aren't that time consuming to write.

I won't know until I start seeing how they sell, but I think applying keyword research is important. Checking Google for key words may not be the same as Amazon, but it should give some indication of how many people are searching for this info, including on Amazon. I intend to incorporate at least two or three keywords into my title and subtitle, and the tags on Amazon.

How much promotion have you been doing for them? The impression I get is that a lot of people throw their ebooks up on Kindle and hope for the best, because "Hey - it's Amazon!"... without any thought to actively promoting their products. It's such a HUGE marketplace that your work will inevitably get lost unless you make a serious effort to push it.

I think the best way to use Amazon / Kindle is as a 'credibility building tool' for your other online efforts. For instance, if you have an SEO business, or a copywriting service (or whatever), write an ebook, promote it on Kindle, generate some user reviews (maybe by BUYING reviews on Fiverr - hint hint)... Then when you're promoting your main SEO/Copywriting business, you can point prospective clients to your Kindle listing where they will see glowing testimonials from your readers.

The very fact that you've written a BOOK will add massively to your online street cred. (The fact that it has sold zero copies is irrelevant. It's the first impression that counts!)
 
i am makeing about $30 a month they have slapped some of my plr stuff but ALOT is still up
 
I see, I'm in the process of writing and heavily changing PLR and open source content to upload to Amazon. Prayerfully they all get accepted. I've hired a team of outsourced workers to complete major rewrites to low competition works.

Two of My ebooks are pretty unique

I got my keywords done right

I got a Youtube very short vid about it linking to Amazon
 
I just placed my ebook on Amazon as well. Not sure if I'll be making any money, but doesn't hurt to try.
 
I'm in the process of designing covers for my books as well from stock photos. I should have 3 more books uploaded by the end of the week. Slow process, but I need them to be unique so they can pass Amazon filters.
 
I've been thinking about writing an e-book for use on the kindle or other e-readers, but I'm unsure if it's even worth it. If you're not making a lot of sales, why not lower the price? A lot of people I know have their books set to $.99 and they make a ton of sales because of it. You may actually make more doing this too.
 
I do not know if this is related, but some time ago I was deeply involved in iPhone app development.

And, after trying probably everything when speaking about marketing of the apps, I decided to quit the market. I would not go to kindle either. With digital content, especially with any kind of books, it's extremely hard to make any money.

Why? Simply because nearly all the information is out and reachable, and often well SEOed somewhere for FREE. That's it...

I'm in the same boat.....May try the 99 cents bin idea instead of the 4-6 bux I've been charging...TEST, TEST....
 
So no one else is doing Kindle Ebooks...well i'll continue to crank out multiple ebooks every week till my 2k I've budgeted for this project is gone.
 
I have a book in the credit niche on Amazon that sells regularly. I average a little over $100 per month on my book. I don't promote it at all.

I had the same book on Kindle. They recently sent me an email telling me that they took it down because it was too similar to other books on Kindle. That was very strange to me, because my book was not made from PLR content. I wrote it.
