WTF? 13 Backlinks created turn into 580!

Hey,

I recently manually created 13 backlinks on PR 5-7 URL's for someone who had a site with 0 backlinks and 1 page which wasn't even optimized for the targeted keyword. 9 year old domain PR 0. Anyways, the site nonetheless jumped to #1 for the targeted keyword and moved up for the others as well. But that isn't what's surprising. What is, is that after just 3 or 4 days YSE shows 580 backlinks spread out over these 13 domains. Thing is, I couldn't find a single backlink on these pages other than the 13 original ones..

Why does YSE show these??

Might be from sitewide links. Some sites have recent comments in the sidebar and they can stay there for a while causing your backlink count to be inflated.

Yeah that was my first thought, but I checked all links. Nothing. And they've been there for days and increasing.

YSE is weird. I've gone through competitor links before and found lots of pages with no links. Even pages where you wouldn't normally expect a link were showing in YSE.

Try majesticseo.com. Seems to be better and YSE is on it's way out.

I did a triangle link exchange with an ebay like website.

He put a link of a website A on his website. And i put his link on my website B.

Anyway, Webmaster tools is showing me 380K links to my website A.

My question : isn't this hurtful ?

I'd rather not, it's my friends site. And the links, no sorry. They have between 10 - 20 OBL's so I don't want to get them spammed.

If it was blog comments then many websites show the comment in the recent comments on the sidebar which adds up to the backlinks. I have also manually commented in the past and have seen such results but most were due to the anchor texts with backlinks in the sidebar widget in case of wordpress.

As I said, that was my first thought too, but when I searched the pages for my link nothing came up.

Well I don't know the websites content, but maybe it is simply good and relevant content, other webmasters link to on their own after finding the page through one of the backlinks you created?

Some WP some custom. And yes, but none, other than the 13 original comment backlinks, showed up..

Well then, all I can say is that sometimes, YSE seems to be on drugs. Don't believe the numbers sometimes!
